People AMAZE me.. our neighbor's house caught fire today |
|
and the WHOLE neighborhood had to mosey down to the end of the block to watch the firemen. That in itself is not a problem, but some of them DROVE and had to be told by the firemen to NOT drive over the firehoses stretched across the street..
Apparently the fire was not too bad, and no one was hurt..but sheeeeez loiuse.. there are sure some morons living in my neighborhood.. It started to rain (finally) and even in the rain, people stood there transfixed.... We heard three fioretrucks on the block so we looked outside and saw the "carnivale"...

2. You can't hurt fire hoses by driving over them. |

|
there were THREE big firetrucks and assorted hoses.. The last thing we needed was cars jamming up the street

and one of the guys I was CAMPING with had a Hummer and he drove it EVERYWHERE. I swear he did not walk the equivalent of 2 city blocks the entire time we were there.

7. Years ago, we had to call the fire department |
|
because our Franklin stove overheated. The damn thing was glowing, and I thought it was about to burst into flames. It turned out to be okay. The fire department even came back the next day to check things out and make sure we had installed the thing properly.
It was early in the evening. Half the neighborhood trooped over to our house and stood around outside. I did not mind my friends being there, but the strangers were ridiculous. I found a guy I barely knew, from a block away, walking all through my house. He was not the only one. I had to tell everyone to go away so the firemen could do their work.
Yeah, people are stupid.

8. It's a community event |
|
A fire is an opportunity for a community to come together, watch something, and comment on how well the firemen are doing their jobs, what they would do differently, how the house has always been a firetrap or at least an eyesore, I've been saying it for years, but they never listened, etc. etc.
It's an action of affirmation. :)

9. Glad that nobody was injured, SoCalDem. And while I do understand |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 12:53 AM by Jazz2006
that people are drawn to such an event, driving down the street to view the event is, certainly, over the top.
My beau is a firefighter so I'm used to the reality that fires draw crowds, but vehicular traffic in the area of a fire can be, and is, a real problem sometimes. It's almost as though spectators don't realize that there are other people in danger and don't realize that their vehicles may well be blocking the only means of egress for the injured and may well be blocking the only means of ingress for additional rescuers and their rescue vehicles. So, while I do understand to a certain degree why people gather to watch, I have never understood why people think it's reasonable to park their cars in the vicinity.
Edit: typo.

10. Those are the same jerks who hold up traffic gawking at car accidents. |
|
It is so inconsiderate. A fire or car accident can really mess up people's lives, and for someone to casually stand around, or drive by and gawk at other people's misery is totally tasteless.

11. I set a vacant lot on fire when I was 12. |
|
I didn't mean to. I was throwing lit matches in the high, dead grass and then stomping it out before it got out of control. Guess I eventually didn't stomp hard or quick enough.
