You can include Ireland if you like, I won't give the IRA your address. My vote is unequivocably for the peerless Withnail and I. And no, surprisingly enough, I don't care for Trainspotting that much.

1. Can I mention several British films? From the Ealing Studios |
|
The Alec Guiness films from Ealing:
"Kind Hearts and Coronets"...the best of the group. Dark, wicked humor
"The Man in the White Suit" - hilarious
"The Lavender Hill Mob" - also great

I've always been a big fan of this black comedy. Great cast and truly hilarious.
Honorable mentions go to Lawrence of Arabia and The 39 Steps.

They've tweaked parts of the plot and updated the setting to the American South (a cross between Ocean's 11 and Oh, Brother....) but agree they're treading on hallowed ground.
Would have preferred to see 'To The White Sea' a postponed project starring Brad Pitt......a major movie with NO DIALOGUE would have been rather interesting. I've also read they're planning a musical starring James Gandolfini. Don't know their motivations for doing remakes but I much prefer when they stick to original ideas.

18. That's what I like about the Coens... |
|
I very much liked "The Man who Wasn't There", because they filmed it in black and white. The Coens aren't afraid to take risks, which is to their credit.
I don't know why in the world they'd do a remake.

That is a cool movie, but I like "Snatch" better.
Both made before Guy Ritchie married Madonna and started to suck.

22. "Wilde" was wonderful. But poor Stephen Fry.... |
|
Had to kiss (and be naked with) Jude Law and Ioan Gruffud.
What a hardship. :-)

26. Stephen kept most of his clothes on... |
|
As Oscar reportedly did; embarrassed by his weight. Sharing scenes with naked Jude & Ioan was, indeed, a tough job. Stephen was up to it!
Not to mention the brief (clothed) appearance by a very young Orlando Bloom.
