Anybody have/use/familiar with Vonage service? |
|
Giving it some consideration. I'd be keeping my cell phone, this would be for business purposes. I'd probably take advantage of SoftPhone as well as the fax line.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

and from what I've heard, vonnages service was poor quality compared to the local one I got. Very poor indeed.
Mine is MIPT however, and Vonage is best efforts.

2. I tried them and switched to Packet 8 which I found to be better |
|
and cheaper. I've used them for a year now and am happy with them.

3. I've had it for almost two years, works fine...mostly. |
|
In the past few months, sometimes a call or two is dropped--but I blame the cable provider, LOL.
Overall, Vonage has worked fine for me.

4. We haven't had it very long |
|
but I'm so pleased with it over our last service that managed to screw things up constantly and overcharge us for doing so.

for a month and a half. After some set-up issues got resolved (they were of little help), service has been fine. Voice quality is not as good as land line, not not a real issue.
I got their unlimited package, $199 for 15 months. We just moved out of state, and would have been racking up some good bills if we had to pay for long distance.
Their deals change, a friend got 24 months for the same $199. That's down to $8.30/month.
Their plan also include 100 minutes/month free international calling, to several hundred locations. My SO can now call Mexico City for no additional cost.

6. I've had Vonage for over a year |
|
Since I don't talk on the phone much, I'm fine with the 500 anytime anywhere in the U.S. or Canada minutes for $14.95 a month, PLUS a dedicated fax line for an additional $9.95, with voice mail, caller ID, and all that good stuff. If I'm not home or if the service is down, calls are automatically forwarded to my cell phone (which is on a T-Mobile prepaid plan).
Compare this with Qwest, which wanted $50 a month for just local phone service with voice mail and caller ID and which raised my rates steadily over the last three months I was with them.
Occasionally, very occasionally, there's a problem with sound quality, but for the most parts, I'm pleased.

7. I have it, and there's only one problem with it: |
|
My internet connection has been extremely unreliable the last few weeks, but I can't call the company to complain when it's out.

8. Thanks to all for the responses! |

I'm going to check out the other services mentioned here, too, before deciding.

9. I just switched to Vonage and have been very pleased. |
|
I particularly like the $9.95 fax line - rather than being charged a full monthly service fee just to have a stand-alone fax.

10. Have you used the fax line? |
|
This is of particular interest to me, considering how the data is sent.

11. Don't think that'll happen... |
|
You'll probably have to go to an internet based fax system.

(big shock, I know) you lost me.
I've looked into how faxes (foip) operate over broadband, and it seems possible with this service, rather than efax, etc. Had I my way, and I might at some point, I'd invest in a faxserve program and be done with it.

14. I know that my Tivo won't do phone updates... |
|
And I thought like you. However with the Tivo, I haven't noticed an iota of difference in phone line or no phone line.

13. You need to be VERY careful about understanding how calling 9-1-1 |
|
from your phone will work.
Please Goodle vonage, lawsuit, Texas
Ohio is about to sue them as well. I have first hand knowledge of a death that would NOT have occured had they fixed the problem my agency discussed repreatedly with them. Since that case has gone to litigation, and anything else I say would violate HIPAA laws, just let me tell you Texas WON their lawsuit.
Please, do some more research on this before you decide...you can PM me if you like.
