Any of yas gonna see 'World Trade Center'?
Comes out Aug. 9.

I've heard it's an orgy of Freeper feel-goodness. Rather a disappointment for Mr. Stone.

24. I'm invited to a screening next Wednesday. Still not sure if I will go.
I'll check a few websites before deciding yes or no.

Thanks for posting, everybody.

25. Interesting facts about the other 9/11 movie, "United 93" --
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=united93.htm

It closed out on July 6, 2006. It has earned $41 million dollars worldwide, and the posted cost of this production was $15 million. I'm sure the studio and the filmmakers thought it would do better.

I chose not to see it. I couldn't make the commitment as I didn't feel it was entertainment. I did see the previous TV cable special called "Flight 93" and was pretty depressed after that movie.

"United 93" received great reviews, but attendance was pretty low. I have the feeling, as many of you do, that it may be too early to do these kinds of movies.

In peace,

Radio_Lady in Oregon

2. Nope.
I have no more interest in "an orgy of Freeper feel-goodness" than they have in a liberal orgy. And by orgy I mean... you know. Orgy.

4. Nope, had enough 9/11 pounded into my head for the last 5 years.
Have no interest what so ever to see this and have all the knuckle draggers say, "see, we are right" "Don't you remember what they did to us?" Arghhh

5. I have strong opinions on this
To answer your question: Yes, but not in theaters or for some time. It's still too fresh for me and I don't think it would be at all entertaining or uplifting and most likely just make me feel like the whole thing happened again.

I have an underlying anger at this movie even being made right now, let me 'splain. In 2004, when Michael Moore released Fahrenheit 911, my republican buddy in my office would go on and on about how it was a political stunt and how the guy should be imprisoned (if not killed, and he said that) for releasing a movie filled with "all of those lies" in a presidential election year. He never even saw the movie, nor read any kind of detailed synopsis, he just relied on the view points of such trustworthy pundits as Bill O'Rielly to form his opinion for him.

Now, flash forward to 2006. It seems a far stretch to call the release of these two 9/11 movies at the same time as the impending mid term elections a coincidence. Both movies needed to be made, but not only 5 years after the incident. We are still healing from 9/11 as a nation (mostly because our government keeps pouring salt in the wound) and now, while we are at war and the situation all over the Middle East stinks of our prolonged involvement, is NOT the time to get us all teary eyed over the most tragic event of my life time.

This is just another example of Hollywood wearing its loyalties on its sleeve. They suppress the opinions of their labor force (celebrities, directors, et al) under penalty of banishment and then go out of their way to help those in power remind us to be afraid. I know I need to be afraid and crying my eyes out for two hours watching it all happen again, only this time in surround sound with sub woofers, does not sound like my kind of entertainment, it sounds like torture.

6. No. One of the people I know who died in 9-11 was a Port Authority cop.
I'm not ready.

7. Hmm....
I guess since I went to NYC last year, my interest could be described as purely site-seeing again... seeing the site, the surrounding area, etc. on big screen again. But it's not only that. I mean, given it's an Oliver Stone film, I feel I should at least see it and judge afterwards. The preview certainly gripped me. I couldn't see Flight 93... I'd never get on a plane again, given how scared I am of them already.

I've heard he plays it pretty close to true.

Like United 93, I'll wait till it comes to cable. I don't want to watch it in public.

I rarely see anything on DVD, either...so no.

Doesn't matter though...there are some that I'd LIKE to see and...

This really isn't one of 'em.

11. I find the trailer pornographic.
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 07:05 PM by CanuckAmok
In the same way that the distributors of "Mask" were (rightly) accused of concealing Rocky Dennis' facial abnormality in the trailer to appeal to the "side-show mystery" morbid curiosity side of people.

I think the distributor of WTC is doing the same thing, enticing people to see it in hopes of seeing the attacks rendered in glorious, high-def visual FX splendour. Hopefully Stone will prove to be somewhat tasteful in the visual sense of the planes impacting the towers.

15. My heart got ripped out when I heard about firefighters & cops
rushing into those buildings and getting trapped and killed. I do not want to relive that. Selfish, maybe...but I have firefighters in my family.

17. Trying to imagine the marketing
strategy the studio discussed as to who would see this movie. Maybe they thought "World Trade" will attract the Ron Howard movie crowd? I'm just not sure. Maybe they thought Stone's reputation would bring in liberals while the heartwarming visuals, soaring music and nationalistic trailer would bring in the freepers? And Cage would attract the action movie fans? Just not sure.
I just think Americans have too many questions about this tragedy that we can't get answered to be ready for the human interest stories. The Bush administration had to be shamed into investigating 9-11 by the victims' families. Hundreds of pages in the report were blacked out. The Saudi Arabia connection was buried. Don't ask, don't tell.
Then, of course, there's the aftermath. We're now in a war where the continual Bushian refrain of "9-11" was the impetus.
And the war is not going well.
Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and now Lebanon. The Mideast has become a raging fire.
"World Trade Center" asks that we relive the nightmare of 9-11 and focus on the bravery and courage of our fellow citizens.
If only we could.

23. Yup. A true story of real-life heros, who are not RW political hacks
at all, just average, hard-working cops and firemen in a shitty situation not of their making, and what they did to survive.

let alone watch a movie reenacting them. For over a month following 9/11, the giant cloud of what used to be the WTC was tormenting the entire NY metropolitan region.
