Classic Album That You're So Sick Of You Never Want To Hear It Again |
|
AC/DC - BACK IN BLACK by a landslide! The so-called "classic rock" station here plays the song "Back in Black" about once per hour for the last 23 years and counting. I've had the record since 1980,but I doubt it will ever see the turntable again in my lifetime.
Just to put things in perspective, I would rather hear "Stairway to Heaven" for the 1,000,001th time before I would want to hear "Back in Black" ever again.
What classic album or song gets on your last nerve?

After your anti-GbV comments, I was ready to dismiss you, but, now this...!
Yes, "Horses" is pretentious sub-Morrison poetry sung badly over dated arrangements. Never understood the appeal of that album....
Now, "Radio Ethiopia" at least ROCKS occasionally. "Horses" just lays there, babbling poetic niceties...

Not that I've heard it a lot. But I imagine that for somebody who's never owned it, I've heard it enough.
As for classic albums that I've owned that I never want to hear again, I guess I'd say.......
U2 - Joshua Tree. An album that has not withstood the test of time.
Ooops, sorry Intelsucks. I just noticed your avatar. I didn't say DSOTM purposely because of it. I'm just not a big Waters fan, at all.

Can't bring myself to listen anymore.
It's also about time we buried Led Zeppelin 4, The Wall, Paradise Theater, 2112, British Steel, Pyromania, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, Get the Knack, Born to Run, Rebel Yell, Appetite for Destruction, 1984, Hotel California, Aqualung, Heartbeat City, 90214, and yes...Back in Black.
OOPS! Forgot the 90s...Nevermind, Ten, and anything by Blind Melon or Smashmouth.
One I never seem to tire of is Foreigner 4. Flame away!

12. I got pretty sick of that one, too, Intelsucks. |
|
And no offense to Pink Floyd, because I haven't written off everything they ever recorded, but I only like about three songs on 'The Wall' and don't care if I never hear some of it again for the rest of my life. Mostly has to do with hearing the ones I wasn't fond of a million and six times apiece, I guess.
I actually like 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here,' but once Waters went over the edge and spent every album brooding on his upbringing, he lost me.
Led Zeppelin's fourth album can bite me, too. Again, just got sick of hearing the same two or three songs over and over. I don't hate them, either, but really ...

Clear Channel's restrictive playlists are turning young people away from Rock and towards disco (or whatever electronic dance music fans call their "new" genre this week). No wonder young 'uns hate rock and roll; their only exposure to it is from listening to Clear Chanel radio's tedious roll call lised above...if that's all I knew of rock, I'd hate the music, too!
AOR when I was growin up used to play all sorts of weird shit...Now you don't even hear Traffic, or Argent, or Bob Dylan, or reggae, or early Commodores, or whoever...It sucks.

Sonic Youth invented a new language for the guitar. Their system of alternate tunings was completely unique to them, and was really a new thing when it first came out in the 80's. Everything since Goo has been crap, though, I'll give you that....
And I never did like Kim Gordon's voice, either (or her kitschy songwriting...)

I think the Karen Carpenter song ("Tunic," was it called?) is the second best thing about Goo.
The best thing is "Mote," the Lee Ranaldo song.
Although I respect SY a lot, they only have four albums I really like: EVOL, Bad Moon Rising, Sister, and Goo. Everything else I can take or leave (even "Daydream Nation").

Methinks you will anger some folks with that one. I don't dislike them, but i'll admit i never thought they were all that. Without Groll, they would have been just another grunge band. He kept the whole thing together, arranging, helping to produce, rewriting choruses, putting in the "C" parts of the songs, etc. He's really quite the craftsman. The others, eh! The Professor

Given the hyperbole of Jas Obrecht, et al who castigated us all for not getting it, when Cobain died. He was the one who said that if you didn't realize that Cobain's death was as much a blow as when Lennon was killed, we were just too stupid to understand.
After that, i wanted to be Jeopardy with Obrecht and just annihilate him, then ask him "Who's stupid now?" The Professor

I would rather hear that one than any other of theirs. They spent a grand total of $600 to record/mix/master it. It is the "rawest" record I can think of at the moment. Had it been a "commercial" album, we would all probably be sick to death of it.

I disagree with many of the choices here. U2, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, and more listed have classic albums that I'll always listen to. BTW, IMO Nirvana had Kurt's voice (often badly immitated) and great lyrics - not just Grohl. I haven't heard Patti Smith's Horses, but I liked Gung Ho, and Horses is supposedly even better.
My biggest one:
Appetite For Destruction - Guns 'n' Roses
