Da Matta injured in a collision with a deer |
|
This is not a joke. Road America is not the north woods but an area that is very agricutural. However, the lack of hunters (and the prion disease) is creating a huge overpopulation of deer. More people will die on the roads.

1. This post is starved of context. |
|
I get the gist but have no idea what Road America is or what part of America you mean.

:wow: The brazilian ex-F1 driver? Neenah, WI (Sports Network) - Champ Car World Series driver Cristiano da Matta underwent emergency surgery Thursday after his car crashed into a deer that wandered onto the track during an open test session at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
That's a freak accident if you ask me. A deer in a track???

5. It is not freak accident |
|
In the last six months I almost hit 2 deer in Chicago. Chicago. In Wisconsin it is much worse. This was almost inevitable.

11. the most beautiful racing track in the world |

it`s amazing more drivers haven`t hit deer because the track is in the middle of the woods.

12. It happens at road courses and some other tracks |
|
Dale Jarrett once ran over a woodchuck, I believe, at the Watkins Glen road course and then ran over a turtle at Daytona, which has a large artificial (I believe it is artificial, at least) lake in the middle of it. I thinK Jarrett also had one other incident in which he ran over an animal. All this for just one racer.
I wish DaMatta the best. He is a great racer and seems like a good guy.

8. Yes. It is not a joke. |
|
I occasionaly have to drive through the Tehachapi,CA area, where deer abound and many people have died. At night I just have to clench it up, use high-beams, and pay total attention.
Speaking with people in the know, if there is a deer in your lane - just keep going straight. Sad for the deer, but evasive maneuvers will endanger your life and other drivers right there.

16. Probably meant lack of tags. |
|
During periods of over-population more deer tags are usually issued either that or the deer starve to death during winter months.
