When Ryan Kraus and Jennifer Conrad checked into the Frankfort Sybaris hotel last summer, they found a swimming pool, hot tub, floor-to-ceiling mirrors and -- later that night -- a "1-inch peephole" with a view of it all.
The LaPorte, Ind., couple have filed a lawsuit in Will County alleging their privacy was violated and they suffered emotional distress as a result of the hotel's "extreme and outrageous conduct."
During the night, the pair said they saw light flickering from the peephole three times -- an indication, the lawsuit says, that someone was watching them. The couple covered the hole and didn't think much about it until the following day, according to a Frankfort police report.
Sybaris: Charge 'outrageous'
In a statement Wednesday, Sybaris "categorically denies" that the couple was spied on and said the hole was left over from a room remodeling project. snip
The hole, 6 inches above the floor, had been used to carry drainage tubing from a dehumidifier through the wall, Sybaris said. When the room was remodeled to allow that water to drain through the floor, the tubing was removed, the company said.
