They sit out there, outside the window, waiting for me. They are like patient childhood friends. They never say a word and I am drawn to watching them today from this 4th floor cubicle where I occasionally work. I see Rainier with its halo of clouds and sunlight, and farther west the coastal range of the Olympics and Hurricane Ridge. To the north, the surprised peaks of North Cascade foothills, between us thousands of gently swaying trees, fir and spruce, live oak and mountain ash and the lovely madrona. On a day like this one, the buildings and freeways recede from view, as though dimmed, and give way to the subtle yet vibrant color these naturals wear. I think to myself, "I don't belong here, in this giant box." It seems sinful to not be outside feeling the salted breeze which sways the trees so. This is the winter day which had makes a paradise of this place. I pick up my work and go downstairs to my real desk. The only window nearby looks at the corrugated steel sides of the parking structure. I toil in the darkness, lighted by the splendor I know is "out there."

8. We are in the Mt. Baker foothills |

and spent most of the day outside. Cutting wood, smelling the air, etc. What a gorgeous day.

9. Next time you have enough free time and a clear head |
|
take a pad of paper and a writing device or two out in to the woods, find a nice place to rest against a tree, and let your mind wander.
It's good for the spirit.

I love central Texas, but I do miss real mountains! I became addicted to them living in California for many years a while back. I haven't been to the Sierra Nevada since 1996 and I am becoming 'homesick' in a way. Mount Rainier is an even more distant, but also pleasant, memory.
:-)
And even the central Texas landscape is irrelevant right now, given my great mini-cubicle view of the back of the neighboring cube's file cabinet.
Woohoo! :bounce:

From my office building, I can see... More office buildings. And warehouses.
But on a clear day, I can see the Malverns, and Clent, and some other very nice hills.
