Dog lovers; Teddy's left eye
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 08:30 PM by HawkeyeX
He has what looks like blood surrounding his left eye. Should I be concerned? What is the treatment for it?

1. Blood in his fur around the eye?
Sometimes an infection will have a bloody discharge or sometimes it's from a foreign object, like a piece of straw or small piece of gravel that's irritating the eye. Could be that a stick or something like that poked his eyeball? When Hushpuppy's eye suddenly was swollen closed, the vet had me wash the eye out with a saline solution to clean it and dislodge any small particles but he also had me bring him in. He examined the eye, couldn't find anything and then had me apply an antibiotic eye ointment for a week and the eye healed fine. I'd take him to the vet or call the vet if I were you.

2. Is it the eye or the eyelid?
Swelling of the eyelid is probably an allergic reaction to something.

If there is discharge from the eye along with the redness, it may be conjunctivitis.

In any case, it's worth a call to the vet, if not a visit. Usually if you describe how the symptoms are presenting, they can tell you if it something you can deal with or something they should look at.

Hope it turns out ok

3. As a concerned doggie mom
I would advise that you get him to the vet ASAP.

4. Get to the vet!!!!! You will probably prevent an even greater problem
and make Teddy feel a lot better, sooner.

5. Is this what you mean, Hawkeye?

If so, run "Cherry Eye" on one of the search engines (I ran a Google on it, because it sounded like this) and see what you find -- it sounds like a congenital thing, if this is what it is, but I don't know if they don anything for it or not.
