Dell Tech Support Question |
|
So I just got a new Dell Inspiron laptop a week ago...
Last night when I tried to cut it off, I clicked on "Shut Down" and I then just closed the laptop before it was shut down. I noticed the green power light still on the top of the computer and that caused me to open it back up. When I opened it up, all I got was a black screen and it's been that way ever since.
Ctrl + Alt + Del won't work and neither will just hitting the power button. The battery is starting to run low so I'm thinking about just letting it die and then charging it back up again and seeing if that works.
Do any of you have any ideas? I hope I'm not in a fix.
If this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it!

1. Charging your battery should help. |
|
I have an Inspiron too, and it goes into hibernation if the battery is too low. Try that and see if it helps.

3. The orange battery light |
|
is blinking. It can't have much longer in battery life.
But see, the battery was 95% charged when it went into this funk. That's what got me puzzled.

2. disconnect the AC power cord (if attached) |
|
and remove the battery. Wait a minute or so, the put the battery back in.
It sounds like it's stuck in hibernation. Completely removing the power supply (AC or DC) should force hibernation to end.

5. I've disconnected the AC Cord |
|
How do I go about taking out the battery. It looks like I need a screwdriver. I'm kinda scared to do that, but if things don't start working quickly then I'm going to do it.

On my Inspiron 1150, there is a little black sliding switch on the bottom of the computer with a battery symbol next to it. Slide the switch, and the battery can be pulled out on the front of the right side of the machine...
Most laptops have some variation of this, just with different arrangements. On one of my other Dells, there is a little sliding lock that holds the battery in place as well as a release switch - but there should never be a screwdriver involved...

|
then put it back in and start it up. Should be no problem.

Not sure if it will work on a Dell but it does on most other machines.

8. When you close the lid... |
|
it goes into 'sleep' mode. Hitting 'esc' should bring the computer out of sleep. Also, depending on your battery (NiC or Li-ion) you shouldn't let the battery run down all the way. If possible, just take the battery out- there should be an easy release.
