Poll question: Favorite Bruno Kirby Film? |
|
RIP, Bruno Kirby. You found a good niche and made the most of your gifts with it.
My favorite, if forced to choose, would be his role as 2nd Lt. Steven Hauk in "Good Morning, Vietnam". He must have done his homework - for he captured so damn perfectly the essence of a pompous, clueless, anal retentive junior lieutenant.
Of course, he was great in "best friend" roles, especially with Billy Crystal in "When Harry Met Sally" and "City Slickers".

1. He was in so many good ones |
|
Of those listed, "This is Spinal Tap" is probably my favorite, but I voted for "When Harry Met Sally" because his role was so great in it. I was so sad to hear he'd passed away so young. :(

2. His Dad is still active as an actor |

Bruce Kirby. My heart goes out to him... losing a child at ANY age is too deeply heartwrenching to imagine.

7. Toss up between Spinal Tap and Godfather II |
|
I voted Godfather because that is my favorite movie of all time (I and II together as one story).

8. "Between the Lines" is a wonderful period piece. |
|
It is set in an underground newspaper in Boston in the 70's. Bruno was an underachieving reporter who scores a big scoop. John Heard, Lindsay Krouse several other solid young actors were in it. Jeff Goldblum turned in a bravura performance as an unreconstructed rock critic and Southside Johnny provided a boffo rendition of "Having a Party" All in all it is a very enjoyable film. It was the first time I noticed Bruno and thereafter, I always watched for his name because I was sure I would enjoy anything he was in. I will miss seeing him in new material but he left us an excellent body of work to enjoy.
