How long can you go without calling someone for the first time |
|
I often meet people, then get busy at work and never call. How much time can pass between meeting someone and actually contacting them before it's too embarassing and one should let it go. A week, 2 weeks, a month?

1. If I gave someone my number and it took them more than a week |
|
to call, I'd lose interest very fast.

4. but only in a romantic context? |
|
If it's more of a "we should hang out" friendly vibe is it still rude?

8. Oh, that's different. I was speaking only of romantic interests. |
|
Hanging out? I'd say you have at least a few weeks, even a month or so before it starts to be embarrassing.

2. To me there's no amount of time where it isn't right to recontact |
|
I'm -horrible- about keeping in touch with friends. Absolutely terrible. But in general for that reason if I don't get a call for a couple weeks or what have you, I have no issues about re-initiating contact. On a romantic plane, however, some girls I've known take severe issue with a lack of contact for as little as three days.

5. i'm speaking more along the friend plane |
|
I get really caught up in work and don't call my friends for awhile. Friends I've had for years know this about me, and have learned to tolerate it, but I'm worried that new friends would think i'm weird (which I am :silly: )

3. By all means, call them when you are ready. |
|
Apologize for taking so long to contact them, explain that you were busy and let it go at that. If they are okay with it, then fine. If not, then move on.
At one time, I was a person who would get all irratated with someone if they didn't call me the very next day. Later, I moved it to a week. Later, I decided not to get upset about it. I eventually found myself in a situation where I really wanted to call someone, but didn't have the time. Only then did I understand why people sometimes don't get back in touch right away.

I made some friends on the John Kerry campaign who I never called. Great people, too. One was a successful writer of gay detective stories.
...sigh. I suck at small talk.
