How does a person get rid of TICKS ON A DOG?
I have tried everything. Shampoos. The pesticide crap that is supposed to work for "up to" 30 days. Nothing works for even two days. My poor dog still has ticks, and is losing hair from all the damn pesticides I have tried.

WHAT does a person do to get rid of these nasty rotten creatures???????

1. You have to pull the ticks out with tweezers.
Then, as a repellent I like this all-natural stuff from Halo.

Or the Petguard Collar flea & tick collar.

Always worked well with our dogs & cats. I refuse to put poison on my animals.

6. You're wrong.
From http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/007211.htm

DO NOT try to burn the tick with a match or other hot object.
DO NOT twist the tick when pulling it out.
DO NOT try to kill, smother, or lubricate the tick with oil, alcohol, vaseline, or similar material.

Trying to smother the tick can cause it to vomit blood back into the host, thereby increasing the risk of disease.

4. Does your dog stay within your yard?
Have you tried to get rid of ticks in your yard?

I use Advantix, and no ticks on my pooch.

Have you gone to/called your vet for advice?

7. the only advice I've gotten, other than what I've tried
is to put a bunch of sulfur all over the yard and water it down. Don't let the dog live there for at least a day.

Sounds bad to me. I don't want my entire yard covered in sulfur!

9. If it's really bad, you may need a pest control company
to come out and spray your yard.

Am still wondering...have you asked your vet for advice?

11. I live in a rural area
and the one vet that is left practicing on "small" animals (other than horses and cows) is semi senile.

I've been told that it is due to the rains and the monsoon humidity, and it will go away soon. Tell that to my dog!

14. You can order the Rx product online
In Australia they sell it without a prescription and sites there sell to the US. It would be better to see a vet, but if there isn't a suitable local one I'd go with that over the over the counter stuff.

12. Are you using Frontline?
It's pretty effective (at least, we had good luck with it,) but you have to be very careful about how you use it.
I hate to use a toxin, but it beats hell out of heartworm and Lyme disease.
