Paramount cuts ties with Tom Cruise |
|
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Paramount Pictures will end its longstanding relationship with Cruise/Wagner Productions, actor Tom Cruise's production company, citing his erratic behavior, according to a report published Tuesday.
Sumner Redstone, CEO of Paramount owner Viacom (Charts), said Cruise's controversial behavior over the last year - including advocating for Scientology and denouncing the use of antidepressant drugs - was the cause for the move, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The company is concerned that Cruise's behavior hurt his most recent film, "Mission: Impossible 3," said the report.
Cruise has worked with Paramount on hit films such as "Mission: Impossible," "Top Gun" and "Days of Thunder."

3. I know Sumner Redstone |
|
Dude's got more money than God...met him a few times, with his various family members and bodyguards, and wasn't impressed. The old dude may be a bazillionaire movie mogul of the old school, but that doesn't give him an excuse to be a rude old a**hole, even in a**hole-rich Hollyweird.
I'd take Crazy Tom over him, any day.
I don't think Tom Cruise is going to be hurting too badly, anyway, from this.

4. I bet those Scientology guys are upset that the goose that... |

lays the golden eggs for them actually believes that stuff - bet they didn't see that coming. I imagine there has been a few late night sessions about the Cruise issue at Scientology HQ.

This is of course a battle between corporations - barely any flesh and blood involved. Cruise is a business no less than Paramount. Bottom line is the real reason. So, no rooting for or against any of the parties. Still, in view of all the Scientology creepiness, I have to confess to some glee.

7. They might just piss Tom off. |

If he seeks revenge and has a huge blockbuster hit, they will be kicking themselves! Hundreds of millions down the drain! ;)
