Beltran, Pujols Make their Cases for NL MVP on crazy night in Shea |
|
Albert Pujols hit two HRs, one for 3 runs, the other a grand slam, accounting for all 7 of St. Louis' runs. Carlos Delgado hit a solo shot and grand slam for the Mets.
But Carlos Beltran was clutch, hitting a two-run walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth to win the game for the Mets. As recently as a month ago, Pujols was a gimme for the National League MVP. But can we really leave Beltran out of consideration? Consider this: The NY Mets are currently at least 10 games ahead of any other team in the National League, and only the Detroit Tigers have a better record in all of baseball.

I'm still amazed Houston let him go...but Beltran is holding his own big time. It will be a great series, to see Pujols/Beltran face one another again the play offs...when they did a few years back, it was...electric.
