I just got kicked out of a counseling center! |
|
I don't know if I'm upset or relieved. I had a "discussion" with a nurse over the phone because my medication hadn't been called in on time, even though I had given them the required 48-hr.notice. My meds were due on a Saturday and they're closed on weekends, so my pharmacist had to give me four pills to tide me over until Monday. (It's the kind of medication that is dangerous to discontinue abruptly). On Monday, I called my pharmacy and my meds still weren't called in, so I called the counseling center and asked them why they weren't calling them in. They gave me three different excuses, each one lamer than the one before. I had an appt. with the psychiatrist (and director of the place) today. When I walked in his office, he told me my services were terminated because I was rude to the staff. I didn't argue about it, but I told him that I had better luck communicating with the DMV. (Yes, I was snarky). So, I'm feeling all wild and bad because I've never been kicked out of a place before. Should I celebrate?

1. You need to find another counseling center asap |
|
I'm sure that you had reasons to be frustrated and all, but if you yelled at or swore at the staff, then you can't expect them to want you to come into the office anytime soon.
Maybe a written apology to the clerical staff there could help smooth things over. People who work at counseling agencies deal with all sorts of people, some of whom are dangerous. The differences in behavior of someone who is really frustrated and someone who is dangerous is not always easy to distinguish, especially over the phone.

3. I wasn't unruly over the phone |
|
I just wanted an explanation as to why they were ignoring my requests for a refill. I'm a paying customer there, and I thought they owed me that. Apparently, they thought I should just be a good little patient and stop asking questions. My therapist there, who is very good, agreed with me about the lousy service, calling it "not patient friendly".

should know his staff is not doing their job properly. You should have at least been given a chance to explain your side of the story.
