Poll question: Are you a misogynist? |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 12:54 PM by Radical Activist
I've seen posts suggesting that misogyny runs rampant in the lounge. Be honest...
mi‧sog‧y‧ny –noun hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.

7. When I hate, it is on an equal-opportunity basis. |

Fellow women can drive me crazy, but the institutionalized oppression of my sex in many countries and the general societal oppression of my sex here in the US is what really pisses me off.

11. on a purely personal level, women have been responsible |
|
for almost all the pain, despair, and suffering in my life.
I need to find one who wants to try to balance the scales . . .
By rights, I should be a misogynist, but you see, I LOVE women. Big time. Long time.

... but there was a time when I actually believed all the crap that society teaches us about women, and I was sure confused.
Once you understand them and accept them for who they are, what's not to like? :)

17. I don't know how to answer that -- I hope to hell not |

I can say that I come from two families of wonderful, strong women. Mom was a member of MENSA who raised five kids, the first four of whom were born within 47 months of each other (yes, Catholic) and had only three jobs in her entire working career. Her sister was the personal secretary to Bruce Gossett, a partner in one of Michigan's most noteworthy law firms -- counsel to the Ford Motor Company. Their mom divorced in 1940 with eight dollars in the bank and left an estate of $250K cash and a similar amount in antiques. On my dad's side, his mom was an accomplished amateur painter and a whiz at matters scientific. She and my Grandpa H were married over 60 years. And my aunt (sarge43 here) served 22 years in the US Air Force. So I have good role models. But I've been divorced twice, with one marriage lasting 22 months and the other 24. The failures are just as much my fault as theirs, and I don't hold any grudge towards either of the exes. And Polly and I have been happily shacked up here for over five years. So I don't know. I like women. I like women a lot. But I also know I'm more than a bit chauvinistic and bull-headed as all get out. You'd probably have to ask the women in my life to get a good answer to that question. John I do know that women loved my dad. He was comfortable around them and they, in turn, loved to be with him. I sure don't have the magnetism he had in that way -- but I hope I favor him in some way. And my mom never cared for men who were, in her words "too sensitive." She thought a man should be mannerly and courteous, a bit rugged and keep his hair short. I know I try to.
