1. my daughter is financially hanging by a thread, because her |
|
best friend and housemate lost her job a couple of months ago and has been quite the dipshit about getting herself re employed. My kid gave her enough time to prove that she could "be an adult and take responsibility", then when she didn't she let her have it with all 8 feet. Hopefully she will be employed in the next couple of weeks, she is getting callbacks now
My part in this is to let my daughter vent to her heart's content, take her grocery shopping and make use of all my economy tricks, slip her a little cash because I felt like it etc. But mostly be the listening post, and let her know that if she has to move back it with us she can. The room mate /best friend has been in our lives since they were 8 years old (they are now 21). It will be much easier for our daughter to move in with us than for the friend to go back in with her parents, as there is a lot of strife in their relationship.

5. I need to do something meaningful already ! |
|
I need to get pro-active, pro something, find a hobby, try and go back to school somehow. I have limited options at this time, having a baby at home, and not working and making extra money. I was on a mission, regarding politics, but my health issues over the past few weeks have stopped me dead in my tracks, because there are so many things to deal with there. I find myslef less motivated because of it.

6. Well, our old boy (dog) passed away, so we can travel again. We love to |

travel, but it seems like it was so much easier when I was younger. We'd just pack up and leave. Now, we have to decide what to sell, what to store, which of the 17 competing options we want to follow through on. Travel? Buy and live on a sailboat? Move someplace for a year and hit the road again? Where? Hawaii? London? Hobart? Reggio Calabria?
ugh.

21. I'm spending my second night back at college. |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 11:33 PM by deadparrot
In some ways, I'm ecstatic to be back after a summer under my parents' thumbs. Then again, I am a little homesick for civilization (and my dad). I'm also not ready to be bogged down by loads of homework, either (classes start tomorrow).
It's going to be a lot of fun, though. I love my roommates, my classes (well, all except one) should be easy, and once we get into the swing of things, time will fly by and it'll be Christmas, then summer again. It's the idleness that gets me down in the dumps sometimes. :hi:

23. I've got a bunch of cardiac testing coming up next month |
|
Lipid protein testing, stress testing -- several hours of it over two days (I've got a bad right coronary artery and according to the notes from the clinic, I'm guessing they think it's congestive heart disease). If I don't pass, it looks like surgery (I've already gotten two stents and that's the limit). The surgery part doesn't bother me as much as does the fact that I'm already into the docs/hospital for around $77,000. Who knows what the accumulated bill will be after this. John Good news is I feel okay -- but I always do right up until I don't.

Heck, everything I own including this house doesn't add up to $77K, so it's not like I'm ever going to pay the bill off, anyhow. To Dr Fattal's credit (GREAT name for a cardiac surgeon, yes?), he doesn't care about the money -- he just wants to make sure I live long enough to rack the bill up over a quarter mil or so. He's a good guy and a very good doctor. John Who says we don't have health care in this country? All you have to do is drag yourself in through the emergency room. But it would be cheaper all the way around if we had some form of preventative medicine instead of letting these things fester until surgery is indicated.

48. Actually, he kind of found me |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 12:08 AM by 5thGenDemocrat
When I had my first attack, I walked over to the hospital (three blocks away). I was in surgery, literally, within 45 minutes. My original surgeon is one of Saginaw County's most noteworthy/notorious Republicans (neither here nor there under the circumstances), who did a great job on the surgery -- but who also has the bedside manner of Adolf Hitler. I also suspect he didn't/doesn't want to work on patients who don't carry insurance. One thing led to another and I was assigned to Dr Fattal who is still quite young (say, 35) as cardiac surgeons go and just a great guy. Like I said, he insisted I get in there for all this upcoming stuff -- so I don't have a kick coming. Money hasn't ever come up as a subject. In fact, Dr Fattal's assistant, Marcia, works to get me my most expensive medicines (I take five different ones) for free and nags me until I come in and pick them up. She's a lifesaver, too. John Anyhow, the odds are better than even that this will all work out just fine (it's mostly just a precaution). And, even if it doesn't, I'm in good hands -- certainly in hands I trust. Thanks again for the kind thoughts.

It's only testing, after all, and I appreciate that the folks at the cardiac shop were insistant that I get in there. If they didn't care, they'd just wait until we all met up at the hospital. John And I HATE the hospital. You have so many tubes and hoses, wires and gadgets in and on you that you can't even roll over for, like, four days. You're wired up like a 350 Chevy small block. They DO have some mighty cool drugs in the pharmacy, though, to deal with the uncomfortability. Nice nurses, too.

sorry floogeldy. I have a few lifetime issues too. me, too; though surgery won't do anything. I've been improving tremendously in the past year.
I would have never thought of it in the worst of it, but going through all the hardships really transformed me, in a positive way.
Living in the moment. An empathy that comes only with having been there. An appreciation and joy for living that only comes out of not being able to at some point. An intensity of all feelings, right from the heart. Noticing and appreciating the 'little' things that most people take for granted. Realizing how inter-dependent we all are...
I wish you all the best, Floog.

54. I was in an accident on Friday night |
|
I wasn't hurt, but the taxi I was riding in hit a pedestrian square on. It was no one's fault: it was dark and no one saw the pedestrian until it was too late. We think he'll be ok -- a broken shoulder and broken ribs, but he was conscious after we hit him. I've never been in an accident before, and this one was particularly brutal. And it happened in a place where the health care is less than ideal -- the other people standing around wanted to stick him on a motorbike to take him to the hospital, but we at least got him in a taxi. It was really scary and I'm still pretty shaken up about it.
Thanks and strength to everyone else posting.

The state of PA has refused to accept his medical status and is initiating charges against him for failure to pay his child support. Which means that he'll likely be going to jail.

PA has to be THE worst state for father's rights. My son has never been a deadbeat dad. He got behind when he was out of work before he moved back in with us. That move and a new job allowed him to catch up...with interest...and he's never even been late since.
But even with 2 of the kids living with him (their mother kicked them out because her boyfriend doesn't like them...ages now 16 and 14) the state is insisting he pay her the full amount for all 4, won't even grant him a hearing on it and the case worker's response when he tried to talk to them about his medical problems...even with his doctor faxing them the results of all his tests and his willingness to sign to allow them to access the MRIs...was 'you should have thought of that before you left your family'. Even though that was 7 years ago and he wasn't even symptomatic then.
Again, not a damned thing I can do about it. I don't have the $1200/mo to send her.

I tried to write something meaningful, from my heart, but it all sounded so ...
anyway. Just a hug, know that people do care.
all the best to your son and his family.

I have a dear friend whose brother has been suffering MS for years. He's in his 50's now and in a nursing home.
I wish there was a cure, an easy answer, a way to unburden those afflicted, some way to ease the pain for all involved.
 I'm sorry :(

|
But most has already been run into the dirt here. Right now i am moving october 1st thats going to suck My business partner is being a total dick and wont concentrate on our business relationship wise..No comment
I just deal With it the best I can! Sometimes i freak out and get depressed thinking or worrying about shit i cant control. But the best thing I have done for myself is to start taking better care of myself. Over 50lbs lighter now I am actually in better shape then i was in my 30's.
I will Survive (Once i was afraid I was petrified)

My partner just left to got to school in a town 2 hours away so I've had to find a room in a house and live by myself for the first time in basically 6 years. Finding somewhere took longer than expected so have been 'homeless' (living on couches) for the last month. Finally found somewhere and moved in on Saturday but I think the guy I moved in with is a bit nuts. Started a new job in the middle of all of this and then a very very dear family member got very very ill and will probably never be the same again. I spent £1000 on a plane ticket home to see this family member just a couple of days before he got very very ill as I knew this may happen, looks like I may have been slightly too late. So that all resulted in homesickness too.
The good news is as soon as I finish at work I am going home to pack for 2 weeks holiday in Morocco, Spain and Portugal, I leave at 7am tomorrow morning. I can't wait!!!

My husband is recovering from a quadruple bypass. He is going back to work next week. I am terrified that he will have an 'event' while traveling.
My lupus is back. With a vengeance. I can hardly move for the pain and all I want to do is sleep.
Shitty, shitty, summer.

72. Midlodemocrat, I hope |
|
that your husband does well. I'm sure it's frightening to have him go out and return to 'normal' activities. His surgery was successful and with your love and caring he's gotten stronger. I will keep him (and you) in my thoughts. Lupus, ..horrible. I'm so sorry it's back with a vengeance. Stress is such a contributor to it too. I just hope and pray that when things settle down for both of you, your health will take a turn for the better. In the mean time please look after yourself. Better days ahead, we can all hope.

74. My grandfather's death is still making me down sometimes |
|
He went suddenly, so I think my mind operated for a while like he's still here. But when it sinks in, it's hard. Even though he was 89, he had his 90th birthday coming up in less than two months. I went out and distracted myself on his birthday. And there are so many memories.

It's a possible basal cell thing on my face. I understand that many people have them removed regularly, so I'm going on the assumption that it's going to be a routine thing.
Other than that, Wednesday is my birthday.
