1. I worked with a woman whose husband is from Toronto, and |
|
she absolutely loves it. :) Very clean and very cosmopolitan. They visit his parents a few times a year.

2. a different accent and CLEAN. |
|
Toronto is wonderful! Beautiful city, nice people. It is certainly Canada's closest approximation of NYC in terms of financial capital, arts, melting pot, fashion, shopping, etc.

20. I think you misunderstand the term |
|
They don't melt into a generic "Canadian"; they are able to retain their ethnic heritage if they so choose.
Melting pot is more of an American term, to quickly assimilate and blend into American society; 'mosaic' is often used for Canada; a landscape of different cultures. (not saying there isn't racism...)

3. More like Chicago, imo |
|
I think Toronto is very much like Chicago. Both are roughly the same size (Toronto is a little bigger) but it just seems very much similar to Chicago.

5. If it's like Chicago, then it has to be great IMO |
|
Chicago is my absolute fave American city that I've never lived in.
If it weren't for the freezing sideways rain, I'd have myself a Brownstone in Wrigleyville today!

6. Very busy, very modern, lots of traffic. |
|
I've driven through once or twice, and can do without it - but then, I hate cities. The CN tower was majorly cool, however!

7. Spent some vacation time there this year |
|
Extremely multicultural in a way that surpasses anything I've seen in the US. Everyone is very friendly.
Beautiful old boardwalk area along the lake, with nice beaches. Great public transportation, subways, trolleys and buses. Beautiful Victorian neighborhoods of brick houses.
My only complaint was that it was hard to find really interesting food. Starbucks on every corner, usual chain restaurants, lotta English pubs.

Spent two weeks there and my car wasn't broken into once. It's better than Chicago in other ways, too.

And there's poutine, of course.
Or is that Vancouver? I can never remember.

12. Poutine is from Quebec. I love it. French Fries, gravy and cheese curds. |
|
Fat cubed I call it.
But yes..poutine has spread across the country. Ask if they use cheese curds though. Cause that is the only way to eat it.

Great people, great food, lots of culture, real professional sports with knowledgeable fans. It's sort of like NYC with a much more laid-back attitude. Visit the city as soon as you can.

Great music and theatre scene, its close to both the Stratford and Shaw festivals in the summer, and the city's beautiful. The people are friendly and its not too hard to get around. I've always enjoyed visiting there.
