There was so much good music out there...I don't think I can pick a favorite song, but my favorite album was Abbey Road by the Beatles. :hi:

I still really like it.
I was a Springsteen & Stones fan at three, thanks to my Dad. I try to ignore the NKOTB obsession that occured during my childhood though.

15. The one song which has been my absolute favorite |
|
for most of my life. It's funny--I was just thinking about it the other day, too.
Back in its heyday, the Ed Sullivan show was always pretty good with celebrities. I don't think we could ever have a show of that style and caliber again.
I don't remember exactly when it happened, but one guest that was on was Richard Kiley, who sang "The Impossible Dream." That song really inspired me, and to this day, it's my favorite song. In 1978 or 1979, "Man of La Mancha" came to Boston as a play, and Richard Kiley was starring in it. We had front row seats, and when Kiley is singing "The Impossible Dream" he comes partly off stage down the steps, and lo and behold, he sang the song directly in front of me. I couldn't have been more than three feet from him at most.
Years later, in 1991, I got a chance to meet Richard Kiley at an awards dinner, and I told him what happened, and how much I had enjoyed it. I think in some ways, I had fulfilled part of my own "Impossible Dream" in the end.

The top ones I remember were (I turned 10 at the end of '86, so mostly what i remember are the '87 songs) "Walk Like an Egyptian" - the Bangles "I Still Haven't found What I'm Looking For" - U2 (a lot of U2, Joshu Tree came out in 1987) "Mony Mony" - Billy Idol "Fight for Your Right To Party" - Beastie Boys

strangely I was WAY into Elvis in 1977, up until his death in August, at which point I promptly forgot all about him. Was "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee in 1977? It was around that time, I think. Loved that one.

Yeah, and that was about twenty years after it was a hit. It was just such a fascinating song; long, musically interesting, and with lots of strange lyrics to figure out! I've now heard it so many times it doesn't mean as much as it used to, but I still think Don McLean is great.

I can still recall the way Alan Freed introduced that record on NYC radio, clear as a bell. He said something like: "Fans, this is a great record. Trust me, you will be hearng this record a lot, and The Platters are here to stay."
Then he played it and I was astounded at how beautiful it was.
