It's what Mom wants... Me, I use a stovetop screw model.

1. We got a little black Mr Coffee Espresso/Capp maker...

It was less than $50.

Makes 4 teeny tiny 'cups' (though if you use a regular coffee cup like I do, it's about 1.2 cups in reality).

The steamer part works fine if you work fast enough.

2. I have a Krups.
I'm sure you can find a good one for around $50 or $60. Check Dept. stores, or Bed,Bath and Beyond (or Linens & Things).

6. There's no reason to spend more than $10 on an espresso maker.
Well, unless you want one right now, that is.

In rummage sale season I stumble on about 5 or 6 a month, unused or used only once, without even looking for them. Prices start at $5.00.

It's evidently a very commonly-purchased gift (wedding, christmas, etc.) and people must really hate them. Poke around yuppie neighborhoods on saturday mornings, and look for sales run by youngish people, or check newspaper rummage ads listing "household" or "kitchen". If you're actively looking for one I expect you could find two or three in an hour or two...
