69. Actually, yes
I asked the vet about that, and she said it's mostly a myth that white cats with blue eyes are deaf. These two guys have the most acute hearing of just about any cat I've ever met - plus Quark has Scratchdar(TM), which enables him to detect whether another cat is getting petted anywhere else in the house. It's really spooky. :D

26. I have an ancient black cat.
He was a rescue (as a kitten) from the animal shelter and we never gave him a name. We just call him Kitty. He is 17 years old and has lived outside since we got him. He's a really sweet cat, but has been diagnosed with cancer in August. This could be his last winter. I'm not getting another one when he "goes."

Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 12:51 PM by Jamastiene
She literally has only a few white hairs on her stomach. You can barely see them. I once had a black cat named Kodak too. She was totally black without a trace of any other color. I used to keep her out of the windows during the month of October. Domino does really get in the window that much. Halloween is a great holiday for many of us, but black cats, IMHO, need to be especially protected during that entire month. There are some really mean people who hate black cats. :(

Here's Cleo in her pretty dress waiting for her prom date to arrive. Doesn't pink go nicely with black?

Actually, she's not completely black, she has a little white star on her chest, and lots of stray white hairs here and there. She's a real character, but I think black cats are almost a sepecies apart. I've never met a black cat that didn't have major personality quirks.

65. That is the most pissed-off looking cat in history
And you're right about the "personality quirks." The first black cat we had (we've had five who lived past kittenhood) was self-petting: she would go into the bedroom, pull your hand off the bed and walk underneath it to pet herself. All of them were serious attention hogs. The only black tom we've had was gay, and one of the other black cats taught herself to open an outswing door (one you pull toward you) to get into the bedroom so she could sleep under the covers next to us.

We only have one left, but she's probably the worst attention hog of the five. And we thought her mother was bad!

Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 07:57 AM by yellowdogintexas

baby clark

Black fur, black whiskers, black nose, black toenails. The most seriously black cat I have ever lived with.

Weirdly enough, in his third winter, he sprouted these widely scattered coarse white hairs in his winter coat. They shed out this spring so currently he is all black again.

He is a big boy, too; about 14 pounds and not fat. And as mentioned above a real attention hog.

My sweetie.

This is my black cat, The Pugsley. I have had two others, one who is gone and dearly missed and one who lives with my parents. Black cats are the best--they're beautiful and, as someone upthread said, they tend to have rather, er, strong personalities. All hail black cats!
