PayPal account holders: please share you special, secret tips with me. |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 07:15 AM by BlueIris
I want to know about the pitfalls, especially. Share the dirt, the things about PayPal you can't stand, your worst experiences. Quick, before I get an account and get screwed!

1. I've had an account for about 3 years. |
|
While I've heard others talking about problems, I've never had one.

I only really used mine for ebay transactions, and I used it to donate to Andy when he was sick. I have never had a problem with it. My purchase transactions with ebay go through a lot quicker and my stuff arrives faster. MrG is not really big on it because he doesn't think it is fail safe (hacker wise) but so far, so good.

Never had a moment of trouble from Paypal. I also have a Paypal debit card on the same bank account that functions as a Visa card as well. Funds in the Paypal account are immediately accessible with this debit card. As an eBay seller, it's possible for me to have cash in hand from a sale within minutes, or I can spend those funds with the Paypal Visa debit card immediately. Amazing.

6. Never, ever link it to a primary bank account |
|
This is mostly if you have funds coming into your paypal account.
I have a separate account that I use to transfer funds from Paypal.
I then remove the money from that account to my regular one as needed.
Paypal can and will tap into your bank account if there is a "chargeback" against you.
Again, this is mostly if you are an ebay seller or use paypal in some other way to receive funds. But still may want to do it as a safeguard.
I have never had a bad experience after hundreds of transactions but still best to be prepared.

10. Do NOT respond to any email asking for your PayPal account information |
|
I haven't done that but I've heard that they are basically scammers who have fake looking "PayPal" sites setup that lure you into logging in with your PayPal account. A week later your bank account is emptied

11. I echo MrsGrumpy's post. |
|
I do have it hooked to my bank account, but notmypresident's advice sounds very wise.
If I lan to sell a high-dollar item (like several hundred dollars or more) I will not list Paypal as an option because I don't want to loose the additional fees.
