Confess! What excellent movies do you hate?
What movies are critically acclaimed, or commercial blockbusters, yet you hate them?

For me: Citizen Kane and The Seventh Seal. I understand the genius which went into making them, but shaddap already! If I ever have to see either of them again, I'll kill myself first.

Maudlin CRAP if you ask me....oh those poor rich southern slaveholders...I feel soo bad !!! The only good scene in that movie was the burning of Atlanta (sorry Georgians...I love Atlanta now)

4. Then It's Not Excellent
I also think it's a piece of crap. Way overwrought, wooden acting, glacially paced script and a director who was more impressed with wide angle lenses than with telling a story.

I think it's the second most overrated film ever.

Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 04:26 PM by SaveElmer
I thought the question was about movies that are generally thought to be excellent but you think stink.

What's #1 for you ?

7. Titanic
I was just kidding about the excellent thing. You understood the question the same way i did. My attempt at humor was feeble.

I used to consider GWTW the most overrated movie ever made, until my wife and i tried to sit through Titanic when it was on cable PPV. Geez, is that horrible. Worse script than GWTW, most overacted movie ever, and the pace is geologic.

I didn't think a successful and well received movie could be worse than GWTW but then Cameron proved me wrong.

9. Another vote for "GWTW"
Even in the "They should have known better" category.

"Birth of a Nation" is gripping because the stark difference in what people believed is so stark and horrifying.

11. Where do I start?
5) Moulin Rouge--I know it received some oscar nominations but I can't think of why.

4) My Fair Lady-misogyny all wrapped up in song and dance

3) Titanic--what a Bust. Was I the only one thinking at the end "yea, right"

2) Seven (brad pitt) talk about bad dialouge "WHATS IN THE BOX?!?!" I don't think they meant that scene to be a comedy.

1) Gangs of New York--Leo was ugly in that movie and the movie had no point. I heard later that the gang fight scene at the end was complete garbage.

13. Gangs of New York & Moulin Rouge
I thought G of NY was overblown and unrealistic, and I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Moulin Rouge was like a bad acid trip; the only scene I liked was Roxanne.

14. 2001 is the dumbest
movie out there passing itself off as science fiction. The original short story "The Sentinal" is outstanding.

18. Gangs of NY was certainly a bad recent movie
The story of the New York draft riots of the Civil War era is a fascinating one, but they spent only 15 minutes out of that infernal movie on it.

The sets were surreal, and the characters were not realistic either. Too many heads being busted for no reason.

20. The English Patient
It was dreadful.
In real life, Lazlo Almasy was a hungarian Nazi supporter who worked for the Germans by choice. He helped smuggle spies through secret desert routes into British held Egypt. He was also a homosexual and he died on a desert trip in the 1950s of diaharrea.
He was an archaeologist though, but that is the only part of his sordid life that the movie was honest about.
