My niece went missing today
She was in the backyard playing with a friend. My brother was in the den, overlooking the yard, working. The friend's mom came to get her daughter - both girls were gone. My brother and the neighbour began to search the cul de sac. They went to all the girls' friends houses in the neighbourhood. Nothing.

My brother hopped in his car to search a wider area - the park, surrounding areas. Still nothing. He went back home. By this time, the police were on the scene. They checked the neighbourhood again. The officer said that they should search the house again. Turns out the girls were hiding. My brother was torn between being thankful that they were OK, and wanting to kill them for hiding.

The officer had a little chat with the girls about how much worry they had caused.

Bit of a scare.

1. OMG - I'm glad your niece is okay
But yeah, that wasn't cool. The important thing is that she's okay.

wow. I am so glad that it worked out well. I am reminded of those three hispanic boys that locked themselves in the trunk of that car. Scary how fast things can happen

I'd be tempted to hug her first, and then ground her until she was 21! I'm glad that she and her friend are okay, and hopefully they will think twice about pulling something like that again.

15. As the father of two small children, I cannot imagine the panic
that he must have felt. Wow -- glad to hear that the girls were ok.

If these girls had been my children, after I changed my underwear and gave them both big hugs, they would get a very stern "talking to."

17. You really shoud call
olly olly oxenfree

before you call the folice

Sometimes I would search the house and be unable to find my dog. Then I would just go ring the doorbell and he would come out of wherever he had gone to take a nap.

20. that happened to my family
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 01:29 AM by Skittles
my youngest brother went missing, he would have been about three or four - I remember how hysterical my mum was - the police showed up and immediately asked for permission to search the house - he was hiding underneath a bed between a couple of boxes. The cops said it is acually quite common, that the immediate crushing fear induced by a missing child makes parents search not thoroughly enough, but run from place to place. :o

I guess I believe in big brother when I am the big brother!

22. That happened to me once.
I was in my grandmother's house doing the laundry and I went into the kitchen my little cousins were no where to be found. I could not find them anywhere. I panicked and I was running around screaming and worrying where they were. They were outside playing. I yelled " don't ever do that again" and then I just started crying. They gave me a hug and said "we're sorry cousin CP." (of course they don't call me CarolinaPeridot in person :))

25. My son went "missing" at a crowded beach once
I was diving around the rocks of the jetty when he turned up. To this day I can not tell you how much actual time passed, probably no more than 10 minutes but even to say it seemed much longer doesn't convey the feeling. Time was meaningless nothing existed in the universe except the need to find him and all the things in my way (other people at the beach).

This happened 3 years ago. My hands are shaking as I type this as I think about it.
