WIMR's official theorem about guys and jackets and neckties:
Ye who wear a dinner jacket ought not to wear a long necktie, and vice-versa.

Seriously, unless you're like the CEO of Microsoft or something, jacket + necktie looks ridiculous outside of the work setting. Either wear a long tie, and no jacket, or a jacket but no tie. Silly elsewise!

I like "sharp-dressed men," as the ZZ Top song goes, but there's a difference between "sharp" and "dagger-point."

:D :D

:P

;)

pudding without eating your meat!

9. Your buttons don't go all the way up to the neck
Really, the problem is the collar. Men's shirts DEMAND a tie. Without one, they look ridiculous. If we are not to wear ties, then someone needs to design a new formal garment for men to take the place of the shirt.

10. Jacket without tie is horrible
NEVER DO IT! If its a casual event, just go casual. Don't do a half-assed, blue-blood "I'm too stiff to not wear a business jacket" casual. Excuse me, I think an episode of Frasier is coming on.

Especially when they wear it like this:

loose tie, un-tucked shirt... oooh hotness.

I'm sorry, I'm just using this as an excuse to post his picture. I am a bad, bad girl. :spank:

And shirt and tie without jacket looks sloppy.

But George Clooney can wear it any way he wants and look absolutely fabulous. I'm drooling freely over the above photos.

31. I think it looks okay sometimes if the jacket is a sports coat and not
part of a suit. Otherwise, I totally agree with you.

27. Dinner jacket requires a black bow-tie.
Normal jackets don't require ties they are optional.

Most suits really need ties.

Shirt and tie without jacket is just plain nasty.

But as other threads prove this evening, I am perpetually over-dressed - and damn proud of it too.

29. No, quite wrong - the problem is that guys you are seeing
are probably wearing poorly tailored suits, bad ties, and shirts that aren't very good.

Or, it could simply be that you just don't like the looks of jackets and ties.

30. My husband wears tailor made suits to work
and if I say so myself, he looks fantastic in them. And, obviously, jackets and ties are required garb at certain events that aren't black tie. Or white tie for that matter.

The only time he doesn't wear a tie is when he is wearing a sports jacket to a less than formal event. Otherwise, tres gauche.

Also, another thing that frosts me, if you are wearing a suit jacket and tie, make sure you are wearing a long sleeved shirt. Otherwise, you look like a bad used car salesman.

32. The short-sleeved "dress" shirt with suit - yes, cracks me up no end!
It looks SOOOOOO awful.

Even a short-sleeved shirt with tie is anathema - it makes no sense. They look better without a tie. With a tie, they just make the wearer look like a pathetic puppy that needs someone to take better care of him.

33. When I was in marketing back in the day, we had a little saying
that we could always tell the 'print salesmen' by their wardrobes.

Grey slacks, brownish plaid sport coat, tie, and short sleeved shirt.

Gah. :puke:
