Help: Best site for MP3 downloads (fee-based)
Does anyone know a good site for MP3 downloads? My daughter has an iRiver MP3 player, and I want to get her a gift certificate for downloading a bunch of songs.

I don't think we can use iTunes with her player, as I believe that iTunes only works with iPod.

Is there another site like that where she can pay to download songs?

1. www.mp3.com....
but I don't understand why you'd wanna pay for music when you can get it for free. The RIAA screws us out of money the way it is.

3. Well...I use
Gateway Rhapsody...it's a fee based service...you have to have a monthly membership...it's only 9.95 per month...lot's of artists to choose from...

I'm not sure if you can put them on a mp3 portable or not...you might have to buy the songs first...but don't quote me on that...

go to Listen.com for more info...

4. The new Napster...
Just like iTunes - http://www.napster.com

But you can still use iTunes if you want to. You have to burn the tunes to CD and then use cd to mp3 ripper software to extract the songs from CD and into mp3 format...

here's the site for the ripper software...

5. They all suck
Really. They do. You're better off making MP3s from bought and paid for CDs than downloading the cruddy DRMed files from the pay services.

6. But you can burn & rip 'em...
...that totally wipes out the DRM coding. Buy cheap, blank CD's and the ripper software.

7. Recompress Audio? That's Heresy!
No! Never ever ever recompress an MP3 -- ESPECIALLY as an MP3 again. The sound quality sucks, period. Simpler to buy UNCOMPRESSED audio on an actual CD.

Try a pay newsgroup,
like supernews

unreal, it blows all the P2P away...

Kazzaa, Napster, look like pre-school compared to the candy at newsgroups...

10. Speaking of newsgroups...
How does one use binaries. There are A LOT of alt.binaries newsgroups and I know they are used for downloading but the instructions I have found are confusing to say the least!!!

To the mods: THANK YOU for spellcheck!!!!

It's fantastic. Occasionally, the server is down, but other than that, the site rocks!
