It's about a year ago, girl. Executed for my mistake. I saved you, then adopted you out to a shitbag group of irresponsible humans who couldn't see your inherent beauty and goodness. An ironclad contract, I agreed to clean up your pools of septic drool and trim your claws, to keep your heaping clutch of eggs warm, yet still, you paid for my error with your life. I didn't think the three animal control officials and their puny tranquilizer darts could hurt you, and I was right, but when the cops showed up with a .50 caliber rifle I knew things were going bad.

I never should have allowed you to roam the neighborhood in search of carrion, and lacking that, live prey, like you found in the courtyard of that assisted living facility. And no, the Director of Animal Services knocking on my door, delivering a personal apology fixes nothing. I attempted to deal with him as you would have, by leaping from the front hedges and biting his leg, but I have not yet cultured the bacterial saliva necessary to bring down a large mammal with a terrifying necrotic infection. Instead of running a few miles and collapsing, he kicked me in the face, and threatened to sue.

Bastard.

My heart is heavy this evening. My disappointment in people is only more energized, as is my desire to emulate your biological success. I've completely stopped brushing my teeth and cutting my nails, I've taken to nesting in the shade and sampling the air with my tongue.

Are you part of a Pitbull rescue organization? I know we've battled briefly in the past about them, and I was wrong, I don't know if I'd ever want to keep one, but I certainly can see the difference between being a loving dog companion and training them to fight, and the outcome of both.

I couldn't do that before because my experience with the breed was that they were ALWAYS adopted/raised to be intimidating. Now that I've played with Rage I can see where my misconceptions were.

I run a rescue, and pitbulls are, at times, the animals we deal with, yes.

I'm happy to see that you've seen firsthand, the quality of the breed. They're not for everyone, and I understand why folks might not ever want to keep one.

for more than a few hours, but then, I don't know because they've never been around them for more than few hours. I guess it's like anything else with dogs, dog personality + companion personalities is the critical equation rather than breed alone.
