I am so absolutely BOREDBOREDBORED with Lost
Seriously, I figured last week was a fluke and this week we'd see what the rest of the group was doing.

As far as I'm concerned, the show has officially jumped the shark!

There were so many commercials I picked up a book & started to read. It got to the point the book was more interesting than the show. (Nice smackeroonie for Freckles from Sawyer, though).

I timed the last episode. Commercial breaks were lasting 4 to 5 minutes each. They were breaking for commercials every 6 to 7 minutes.

43. It seems that way, but it is not true.
I record the show onto a dvd-ram and then zap out the commercials. The show is exactly the same as other seasons, coming out to being 42 minutes and some seconds. You do not get 10 minutes of program time without a commercial. I can remember 20 years ago when I would record an hour long program and zap out the commercials it would come out to be 51 minutes. I also now record "The Office" and it comes out to be about 21 minutes and some seconds.

calls and other things -- not a good sign. I missed a lot of it. All I saw was whats his name kiss whats her name and piss off the others. And then the signal fire stuff with the japanese girl pissing off her husband again. And then a confusing flashback. If someone shared any decent spoiler I would be forever grateful.

17. Ummm...Sun killed Ben/Henry Gale's girlfriend
I can't believe people are saying the episode last night was boring.

Sawyer and Kate finally made out. Sun capped Colleen. Sun's lover killed himself after Jin found out. And the sailboat was lost.

A lot of things happened...if, you know, you actually paid attention to it.

6. Although I'm addicted to "LOST"
and won't quit the habit soon, I was also disappointed in last night's episode. You'd think that by now the survivors would know that the Others have the upper hand. So why would Sayid think that he and Jin could sucessfully take them on onshore, leaving Sun to hide in and guard the boat?

And why didn't Kate make any attempt to knock the female Other off balance to give Sawyer time to cap a couple of the guards? And also, wouldn't you think that Kate and Sawyer should be a little more guarded in their conversation just in case they were being observed?

7. I thought I was the only one; the last two episodes have sucked
This show is moving at the speed of rot. You can miss ten minutes and not miss anything. I've also gotten into Battlestar Galactica, and LOST is just glacial in comparison.

I've gone from being intrigued by all the mysteries to not being able to keep track of them all to just not caring anymore.

I was such a big fan of the original but that's only because I couldn't decide who was cuter - Starbuck or Apollo. Mind you, I was in the single digits at the time that one came out.

I'm always on the look out for great new shows and everyone raves about BG, I should definately watch the show!

26. Make sure you start with the miniseries
I believe there's a set of the 1st season out that includes the miniseries that started the new series. It sets everything up.

As to the Starbuck/Apollo thing...while Katie Sackee is tough and lovely as the lady Starbuck, I'm all about the new Apollo (Jamie Bamber). Finally, some scifi beefcake for the ladies! There's an ep in the second season where he is barely wearing a towel. Mmmmm.

And the original Apollo (Richard Hatch) also plays a reoccurring character, so it's easy to compare and contrast the 2.

Enjoy!

40. By all means, LynneSin, you must watch Battlestar Galactica
Do whatever it takes to get your hands on the original miniseries, Seasons 1 and 2, and tapes or whatever of the latest season's offerings. It is, hands down, one of the best dramas (maybe THE best) on TV and one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time--up there in the pantheon with Twilight Zone, Star Trek: TOS, Firefly, and Babylon 5.

It's funny. In 1980, I never thought I would have used "Battlestar Galactica" and "greatest sci-fi shows of all time" in the same sentence.

9. I LOVED IT!!!
I am interested in what the others are doing with Sawyer and Kate. Now we know they do have contact with the outside world. I am more convinced then ever that they are part of the DHARMA experiment on a utopian society and that the crash is part of the experiment, that the others are being studied as much as the losties. Anyway, I don't think its jumped at all.

44. I have always thought that the writers were making it up
as they went along, depending on which character gets a DUI. They have some many new and loose threads without tying up any of the old ones that what could have once ended up to be a spectacular sweater probably won't even be a desirable sock at the finish. Unless the writers make a determined effort to really pull this show together, there will be those of us who were fans who will want to see Lost put out of its misery. It's about making a buck and not about great tv, so they will milk it for all they can before it goes out with a whimper.

56. This show has rapidly taken on Twin Peaks Syndrome
Twin Peaks Syndrome is when it becomes obvious that a television show really has no direction or reason for all the "clues" it throws out for all the mysteries it's presenting. The mysteries don't really mean anything, and the writers are just marking time and muddying the waters until their show is cancelled and the paychecks run out.

At this point, I believe that it really is useless to try to assemble the clues we've been given so far, because they really don't mean anything.

Twin Peaks (a great show, by the way, in the first season) fell victim to this quite rapidly. The X-Files suffered from the same disease. Now it's quite apparent that it's happened to LOST. And that's just sad.

58. I've heard that even David Lynch didn't expect Twin Peaks...
to last a full season. When it did, everyone involved with the show was pretty much "lost" from then on. The writers were forced to pull stuff out of their aft ends as they went along.

It's pretty clear that the same thing happened with X-Files, which was also a great show in the first season, but went sharply downhill after that.

I really have no use for shows that pretend to have some giant story arc but can never fully or honestly develop it. I think a lot of shows premiering this season (Kidnapped, Smith, Vanished, e.g.) are experiencing the fact that most people are tired of this nonsense.

61. I always wondered why Patrick McGoohan never became a bigger star.
He had the good looks and a great voice. His previous series, Secret Agent, or Danger Man, is also a classic. There is a thought by some fans that #6 was in reality John Drake from Secret Agent. One thing is certain, Patrick McGoohan would never be a part of something like what Twin Peaks or the X-files became or what Lost is developing into. That may be one reason he never did get to be a big tv star at least, because he was interested in quality and would not let a series go on and on simply to make a buck.

16. We had no payoff on the Hatch exploding story whatsoever
They gave us a cliffhanger last season about Locke allowing the computer time to run out which involved Charlie, Eko and the original guy from the hatch. Did they live? Did they Die? What happen to the island when the numbers weren't entered.

So what payoff do I get - no mention of this story whatsoever and a host of new characters I really don't care about. Plus the absolutely ANNOYING flashbacks that at this point - I really don't give a fuck about it anymore. Instead of doing another Jack flashback in the first episode, why not split the time between both sides of the island and give us a payoff for the Hatch storyline

But instead ABC royally fucked it up by showing us the previews for next week, 3rd week into the season and we finally see that we'll deal with the hatch. But the thing is, we pretty much know that Locke, Charlie and the 1st Hatch guy live cause you see them running around in the preview and that Eko was trapped and they're trying to pull them out.

So why the fuck should I bother watch next week?

19. DON'TDON'TDON'T watch it then
Seriously, you bitch about the episode every single week -- and this goes all the way back to last season.

If you don't like it, then don't watch it. It's pretty simple and basic.

I don't understand the mentality of someone who apparently religiously watches something that they hate just so they can bitch about it later. You remind me of those little old women who listen to Howard Stern *every* day because he's *so* filthy and disgusting and they need to keep tabs on what he's doing and saying.

21. But it's not like I just decided to watch a really bad TV show
At one point Lost was extremely good. And in fact my biggest bitch from last season wasn't about the show but the fact that they would show two new episodes, repeats cycle which was annoying as hell (and btw ABC vowed to not do that this year - they will show all the episodes back-to-back with a break over the holiday seasons. I think we all agreed that was good.

So here is a show that was damn good watching and I think for many of us we keep hoping that we'll get that reward we once had with the show, but it's not happening.

So if you don't like my bitching - try the hide thread feature, it really does work :D

48. I like the wait
With two caveats:
1. There is an end.
2. They really do know the whole story right now (I believe them when they say it)

This is an unfolding mythology and that is what makes it great. We found out some incredible stuff this week. As far as character sketches, this show is awesome. This is not a plot driven show. Sit back, relax, and learn about some cool and some not-so-cool people (and the best part is that we don't REALLY know who is cool and who isn't yet). All of television does not need to be instant gratification, everything-wrapped-up-in-60-minutes, ADHD aimed programming.

51. But that's not the problem
You spend 2 years committing to some characters you want to focus on them. Sure, some new folks come along and I thought they did a great job trying to intergrate the tailies in with the rest of the folks (although I kinda felt it was all for naught since they killed 2 of the main tailes out due to RL personal issues).

I loved the shows "Six Feet Under" and "The Sopranos" because they had a core cast that you could pretty count on year after year, but each year there would not only be new characters added/leaving the show but a few reoccurring cast members that would be highlighted from time to time. But the success of both of these stories was the fact that it was how everyone interacted with the core characters that you came to know & love over the years. Especially with "The Sopranos" (the cast rivals what "Lost" has), there was easily weeks where perhaps you wouldn't see Carmella or Dr. Melfi, but whatever the plot was - it still centered around the core group of the show even if it was just how they interacted with Tony and his gang.

I think what bugs me the most about what's happening on Lost is they decided to take a small group of the core and split it up into a new storyline, with a new location AND a whole new cast member and see how they would interact. But instead of taking the core group we've come to know and love, they splinter it off with just a few of them. I guess to me, it just lost interest

52. I reserve the right to change my mind on this
but I think that was a good move. They didn't want to repeat the "repeat" fiasco from last year. So they will do a short run that focuses primarily on the trio that were captured and then the long run will focus on the rest (maybe with the trio back, who knows). If that is the way they are going to do it, then I have no problem. It will be like a Tolkien novel--we'll backtrack in time to catch up to where we are.

Viewers got really pissed about rerun after rerun after clipshow... so, PER VIEWERS' REQUEST, they are having a six-episode mini-season, an almost three month break, then sixteen straight shows. I wish all shows would do this.

31. Maybe it's JJ Abrahms
I watched Alias in DVD. The first season started out like gangbusters. The Season Two seemed padded with a lot of teary soap opera pap.

Now with Lost, Season Two seems padded with recaps. But I've only just begun, so hopefully they'll peter out. They should take a hint from Battlestar Galactica with just use the briefest of recaps to tickle the memory.

I've got until next year for reviews and comments on Season Three before deciding whether or not to buy it.

**I think a lot of the production delays of Season Two Lost that caused all the repeats was due to Hawaii being under unusual persistent rain. Of course they couldn't mention it for fear of hurting the tourist trade.

38. I think it is..
Abrams had ADD or something with his shows, and this concept is alot tougher to work with than Alias. I decided to not even start after what he did to Alias when he got bored with it. He really, really dropped the ball on Alias, that show could have gone on alot longer if he'd devoted more attention to it. Of course I never liked the Rambauldi theme anyway, I wanted them to do straigh espionage which would have been alot more interesting than this far out stuff. And the last episode I saw was like something from Buffie the Vampire Slayer, I got the feeling that the actors even felt insulted by the story line.

32. Do you think the Others really sent Michael and Walt back home?
that bit of news surprised me but I don't quite believe it yet. The scene about the Boston Red Socks was funny and now we know the Others seem to have more contact with the outside world than previously expected.

39. In last week's episode
Mr. Friendly was on the gurney while Jack and the nurse were talking -- when he was watching his Dad in the hallway on the cell phone.

50. Depends on what you mean by home?
I think they did. I think the others really are the good guys. And even though the writers have disavowed the "they are on purgatory" bit, I think this whole show is a metaphor for purgatory. The one writer would not have been so gung-ho about people reading The Third Policeman otherwise. Michael passed the test and was allowed to go "home."

53. He passed the test by shooting two people in cold blood?

54. First of all, if the metaphor is purgatory
"shooting" someone really doesn't mean anything, now does it. Everyone who leaves comes to grips with their past.

Michael came to grips with the shitty father he had been and he is able to go "home." No, granted, he shoots two people, but it proves that he will do anything for a son that he previously wanted nothing to do with. Ana had come to grips with her past right before being shot. She said, "I can't do this anymore." The other woman, I admit puts a kink in part of my theory, but we really don't know anything about her anyway and I'm sure we will learn.

55. Maybe it doesn't actually matter, but Michael wouldn't know real from fake
So maybe he wouldn't have actually ended someone's life (although that doesn't make sense because those two people are gone), but he allegedly passed a test by having the intentions of killing two people in cold blood?

Being willing to do anything doesn't seem to prove love. Walt seemed pretty creepy, imo. :)

But I guess not everyone that gets out of purgatory would go up. Maybe they left 'purgatory' for someplace a little hotter. :)

68. I don't think Michael came to grips with ANYTHING
I think he did the opposite -- he refused to accept responsibility for alot of stuff, betrayed people, and then killed people who SAVED his ass.

I do, however, believe that the Others think they are the good guys.

67. I don't think it's about Purgatory
I believe the writers/creators on this.

34. You're late to the party, Lynne.
This show "lost" its appeal somewhere in the third quarter of it's first season.

42. Last night's ep was not quite as interesting as I'd hoped, but...
...Sun kicked ASS! :woohoo: And I am glad we got some more on the Sun/Jin backstory. I'm also glad Kate and Sawyer are starting to show some outward signs of affection for each other. Kate's strong, and I'm really disappointed that she didn't kick some ass when Sawyer took his opportunity. They really could have killed some of the Others and/or gotten away.

46. Seriously. They need to pick up the pace. And focus on the goods.
Jack? really? who cares?

We needed to start with Sayeed, Hurley, Locke, and Echo. Show us the Losties wondering where Jack, etc. were.

Then, pull out the Others and weave them in. I don't like the Jack & Ben show. Not one bit.

And Juliet is obnoxious. Why so much of her, and so little Rousseau and Alex?

I think next week might start to be good. Otherwise, I'll wait until the DVD set comes out.

62. Are you kidding? It's brilliant that they haven't shown that yet!
Seriously, it's the same reason the Lord of the Rings books are incredible. It builds suspense. You don't need to know everything at all times, nor should you.

70. Exact-a-mundo
I don't understand all these people who want everything answered immediately. They're building a story and a mythology with suspense and a true narrative arc -- and actual characters, something you rarely (if ever) find on TV these days.

When did Twin Peaks start going downhill? After episode 11 where they revealed who killed Laura. Everyone stopped watching after that.

I think it's telling that Lost's creators sat down with Mark Frost and David Lynch at the outset to get their advice on how to keep a show like this on the air. Whatever they told them seems to be working so far; it's already been on twice as long -- and just keeps getting better in my opinion.
