Coca-Cola Claims New Drink Will Actually Burn Calories
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 08:39 AM by matcom
<snip>

ATLANTA -- The Coca-Cola Co. said that it will introduce a new green-tea beverage that has been proven to burn calories.

Enviga will hit the market in the Northeast next month and nationwide in January. Coke said it is the product of a joint venture with Nestle  and could burn 60 to 100 calories with three 12-ounce servings.

The Atlanta-based company said the drink contains caffeine, calcium and a green tea extract known as epigallocatechin gallate, which speeds up metabolism and increases energy use, epecially when combined with caffeine.

"Enviga increases calorie burning. It represents the perfect partnership of science and nature," said Dr. Rhona Applebaum, chief scientist, The Coca-Cola Company. "Enviga contains the optimum blend of green tea extracts (EGCG), caffeine and naturally active plant micronutrients designed to work with your body to increase calorie burning, thus creating a negative calorie effect. It makes this product stand out as unique. Enviga brings the benefits of green tea to the forefront in a convenient and accessible, great tasting beverage."

The company said that when EGCG and caffeine were present in levels comparable to three cans of Enviga, "healthy subjects in the lean to normal weight range can experience an average increase in calorie burning by 60 to 100 calories."

The company presents the new drink as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

"We've seen a shift in consumers' attitudes toward diet and health and wellness, with more consumers seeking product choices that support active lifestyles, rather than just eliminating things from their diet," said John Hackett, senior vice president, Coca-Cola North America Marketing. "Enviga is a great tasting beverage that invigorates your metabolism to gently burn calories, and it's a positive step people can take as part of a balanced lifestyle -- like taking the stairs."

Coke said Enviga will be available in three flavors -- green tea, berry and peach. It will be sold in 12-ounce sleek cans at a suggested retail price of a $1.29 to a $1.49 per can.

Drinking colas linked to weak bones in women
Regular consumption may lead to osteoporosis, research suggests
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15223325/

"NEW YORK - Women who want to keep their bones strong may want to keep their cola consumption to a minimum, a new study suggests.

In a study of more than 2,500 adults, Dr. Katherine L. Tucker of Tufts University in Boston and colleagues found that women who consumed cola daily had lower bone mineral density (BMD) in their hips than those who drank less than one serving of cola a month.

“Because BMD is strongly linked with fracture risk, and because cola is a popular beverage, this is of considerable public health importance,” the authors write in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition."

More at link.

I know, "you can have my cola when you pry it from my fractured fingers".

21. Well, maybe I was just trying to hijack the thread
I don't know.

Somehow, anything that CocaCola puts out is suspect to me.

Maybe it has to do with their union busting, their crappy environmental record, the use of high fructose corn syrup, their marketing practices, the aspartame, and that stupid f***ing polar bear that throws me into a cuteness attack.

14. Cool
Stuff to stuff in your pie hole that makes you burn calories. I heard that about pickles too. Eating them burns more calories than you can disgest. (no double entendres here amigo) Or is that just a myth?

Another thing, apparently you are not allowed to like Coke and be a liberal. Fascinating. I am drinking a C-2 right now. Occaisonaly I drink the unlabel non calorie kind too. It's so refreshing.

15. Yeah, pickles are a negative calorie food.
They only have like 10 or so calories, but your body burns more calories than that in the process of simply digesting them.

20. Do you suppose it has a laxative effect?
Could it cause one to leak from a primary orifice? Running to the toilet frequently will also help a person burn unwanted calories.

22. East German cola burned calories
The commie who invented the formula for this stuff used a leaf that has laxatve properties as part of the flavor blend.

In communist countries, it's not wise to change the formula, because if you improve something they think the original designer did his job wrong. So, until the wall came down, East German cola burned the hundreds of calories you needed to run to the can and give birth to a runny Republican.

Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 08:35 PM by jmm
without the nasty side effects I'm sure this will have and would be cheaper. A pound is 3,500 calories. If 60 to 100 calories are burned with three 12-ounce servings and each 12-ounce can costs between $1.29 to a $1.49 then at the minimum one would have to drink 35 cans (which equals 420 ounces or a little over 6.5 gallons) at a cost of $45.15 to lose one pound.
