Do you ever find yourself wanting to post about something but unable to?
Something I dislike about myself and want desparately to change is bothering me today and I want practical advice for dealing with it. However, I know from past experience that if I post about it that people will interpret it as some sort of compliment-fishing scheme and respond approriately and leave me more frustrated than when I started.

Does this happen to anybody else or am I just special? :(

1. You are special
and yet that has happened to me as well. How's that for an answer?

2. I have no barriers.
Indeed, on some topics people have to tell me to be quiet or change the topic.

I'm slowly catching on, however. :D

3. Yeah, that happens to me
Sometimes I get hung up on deep, weighty thoughts that I'd really like feedback on but I know it will just turn into a goofy, silly scenario. Which is okay because probably the best thing for me at times like that is to lighten the hell up but I never really do get what I'm looking for.

So I post a Monty Python poll or something instead. :hi:

6. I debate before every time I mention my pain
in a post. I don't want to seem like I'm whining, but at the same time I don't hide that my health and pain are major issues for me every day.

So occassionally I post about it, and I don't worry about it. I know some people here probably think I'm a whiner fishing for sympathy or something. There are mean people everywhere. I just trust that some of the people here are nicer than that, and I haven't been disapointed yet.

Besides, you have friends here.

11. That's the thing though,
if it were people whose opinions I don't care about minimizing the issue for thier own reasons, I could easily disregard that. The problem is that it seems like anytime I post anything indicating a desire to change any aspect of myself, my body, or my life, people who do care about me trip over themselves to tell me that they like me just the way I am without stopping to question whether I do.

Oh, and if anybody ever gives you shit for posting about your health problems, I will be all over them like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm. (Warning: sports metaphor ahead.) You just take the ball and run. Let other people block for you.

7. Perhaps you should post as though you are talking about a
'friend' with a problem that you would like to give advice to. Then we can all criticize this 'friend' as bluntly as necessary, providing the necessary advice. It all concludes with a shocking denouement when you reveal that the 'friend' in question is none other than you yourself! Will that work?

12. Even if I were a good enough liar to pull that off too many people here
know me well enough that they'd see through that. Anyhow, it's not some sort of shocking daytime television plotline, just a simple insecurity about myself that I'm wishing I could discuss with people in a mature way.

19. Well, I guess the only thing is to post it and see what happens
Take your posts from this thread and distill them into a preface laying out that you're serious and not fishing, and go to town. If it works, it works, and if it doesn't then some resident Lounge nuts will turn it into some bizarre flamewar (which would also have value)...
