If so, please tell me. I'd hate to think I'm all alone here.

12. I live on the Upper West too!
Just moved up here from the West Village - couldn't deal with living in a closet anymore.

Where are you? :hi:

13. West 60's
I used to live in the Village also, but got a good deal when a friend moved out in the middle of her lease and I was able to take it over at a slightly below market price, WITHOUT having to pay a broker. The Village was a little more fun, but now that I am a bit older, the UWS is more my speed.

Where are you?

:hi:

than everyone.

It's actually quite sedate here.

Even the village has it's different neighborhoods.

I was at Bleecker and Thompson, which is many things, but most definitely NOT sedate. :D

22. I'm on Fifth Avenue
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 12:04 AM by Karenca
Between 9th St. and 10th St. -- about 2 blocks north of the Washington Square Park Arch.

Bleecker/Thompson is a different world, even though
it's just a few minutes walk from me.

My son lives on St. Mark's Place-----Party all the time!

33. I am on 92nd between Broadway & Amsterdam
I have a roommate (can't afford a decent one bedroom) but it's a huge apartment. It's a nightmare looking for a place to live in this city. I refuse to pay most of what I make on a dump the size of a postage stamp, so the Upper West is the place where you can get a lot of space for a reasonable price.

I kind of miss certain things about the Village, especially being able to walk to work and just the beauty of the neighborhood, but I like it up here too. I am kind of over the young hipster scene myself. :)

;(

I lived in the 90s for the last four years. There really is no replacement for fairway and zabars.

24. I go back and forth between it and fairway
as being the greatest store in the world.

But seriously, that stretch from 80th and Bway to 72nd and Bway with Zabar's, H&H Bagels, Fairway and Gray's Papaya is perhaps the greatest halfish-mile in the history of the world.

25. Love all of them-----
We've got our greats downtown too-----

Dean and DeLuca, Balducci's, Murray's Bagels, and Gray's Papaya!

But I do love that stretch. Sometimes I'll take the train uptown just for Zabar's....I start to miss it after awhile, and
I need to get my Zabar's "fix".

34. Where do you live now?
The only problem is that Fairway and Zabars are soooooooooo crowded and it gets hostile shopping there - sometimes I just have to walk out because I can't deal with the energy. You basically have to go at very off hours in order to tolerate shopping there.

I usually go to Whole Foods in Columbus Circle, but even that gets insane at times. New Yorkers are such demanding customers when it comes to food, nobody shops at Gristedes or Food Emporium anymore. Those stores are always practically empty.

38. Just moved to Philly
let's just say it's no NYC. Particularly the dumpy area I'm living in now. I have to *drive* to the grocery store.

I kind of like how crowded Fairway gets. Don't get me wrong--I've gotten into my fair share of arguments cause of it, but it's all somehow part of the charm.

Big problem is that I'm just as demanding about my ingredients, and now I just can't get them. I have to drive up to NY and load up my car and come back with the things you just can't find here. You know--like a bagel that doesn't taste like crap.

40. Wow - I'll remeber that whenever I think I want to move out of NYC.
Sometimes it drives me crazy living here - it's just so exhausting at times, but I know that if I left I would miss it terribly. Particularly the fact that you can get pretty much anything you want here (I am a "foodie" too - I don't even like shopping at regular grocery stores because I have gotten so used to high quality food.)

I also don't drive and and I have no desire to drive. I couldn't imagine having to get in a car every time I need something. Well, at least you are still fairly close to NYC.

Why did you leave?

41. Yeah, driving takes some getting used to
I moved down here for medical school (it's one of those careers where you just have to go where school/work takes you) but hopefully, if I do well enough, I'll be able to land a residency back at one of the major NY teaching hospitals.

I tried to get some smoked ham neck bones (on sale every day at Fairway) for soup and the butcher at the nearest Whole Foods looked at me like I was totally crazy.

20. Half of my DNA
lives there. My son lives in Manhattan, somewhere near Penn Station and the Nix Stadium. Will be visiting him next month. I keep trying to get him interested in DU. He came to a couple of the DU get togethers when he lived out here in Berkeley but then he moved to NYC and that was that. He does hate Bush, which is a good thing if you live in NYC.

42. another manhattanite, here..
i live in the very posh neighborhood of the upper, upper, upper, upper, upper west side.

ok, the only thing good about it is, at least it is still on the island of manhattan, even though we don't speak english. a totally trashy neigborhood. but it is all that i can afford.

(for you non-new yawkers, it's called washington heights, also known as the little domincan republic.)

i won't say any more because i don't want to give people a bad impression. :-)

but you know what? i will gladly put up with this just to be a part of this great city.

new york city has an energy that you will never feel anywhere else.

i hate my neighborhood but i LOVE my city.

what can i say?
