EXPLAIN YOUR AVATAR!!! DO IT NOW!!!
(Man, I gotta stay out of GD.}

Mine is the cartoon version of Mr. Gumby from Monty Python's Flying Circus. The humanoid versions were thus:

L-R: Terry Jones, Eric Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin.

If there were a politically correct way of describing the way they spoke, I'd tell you.

176. Half Dome Again
I visited Yosemite in early June. Great time to go, the crowds (in the Valley) aren't bad, there is still snow in the hills, so the waterfalls are running full (some slow to a trickle by fall). We drove up to Glacier Point early in the morning and found only about ten people there. Did some day hikes and had the trails to ourselves.

120. There must be something almost magical about that place...
I had a dentist who was stationed in the Antarctic...photos and stuff all over his office (he was a helluva dentist, too...got my daughter over her phobia and one of my boys actually dozed off in the chair during a root canal), and he wanted to go back so badly he re-enlisted in the Navy.

This was before...

He's practicing again.

Just...indescribable. You think of Antarctica and you thing barren...nothing...but that's so far from the images I saw. It was varied and alive and it seemed to just breathe...

And I've never even been there. I suspect it's one of those places that has to actually be seen to be truly understood. Photographs just can't -- there's no way.

169. Mark McKinney from "The Kids In the Hall"
They are a Canadian sketch comedy team shown on HBO in the late 1980s, early 1990s.

In this particular skit, McKinney is looking at people off in the distance through his fingers saying, "I'm crushing your head."

Brilliant. Hilarious.

117. Not at all prying. The symbol just seperates one thing into three.
And that was exactly what I did with my mind.

We're one again, but sometimes we're three when we are tired.

Sorry, that ought to be "I'm one again, but I'm still three when I'm tired."

I still slip up sometimes.

All that you say
All that you eat

All that you slight
And everyone you fight
All that is now

All that’s to come

109. My black ass
It's a ruc catala, or Catalonian black ass, native only to the semi-autonomous region of Catalonia (capital: Barcelona) in Spain.

It was used as the mascot of the successful movement to ban bull fighting in the province. Everyone knows the bull is the national symbol of Spain, so it is self-deprecating humor that they used the image of this lowly beast of burden.

Catalonia has a grand history of progressive politics and I like the fact it is similar to the Democratic party logo.

147. I have a rabid Cubs fan friend
He's a huge baseball nut. For the past four years, EVERY single postseason he's told me that this is IT, this is the year that Mark Prior will be healthy and Hendry will make the Big Trades to get (fill in the blank free agent savior who will propel the Cubs to victory) and this is THE YEAR that the Cubs will turn it around and be a dynasty and take it all the way!!!

It really must be a mental pathology. You have my sympathies. That said... 2008 will be a delicious year. A Dem in the White House and 100 years of Cubs futility. Bwaaaaaaa!!!

148. Heh...
I say "Maybe next year" like a mantra but it's by rote. I may be a Cubs fan (and yeah, a rabid one at that), but I only keep my head half-buried. I've been saying for the past two years that it ain't gonna happen -- until 2008.

Next year there's no way. Prior's supposedly healthy but who knows. Kerry's gotta learn to throw out of the bullpen. Plus he might not even be there. Club's got an option and I really don't see them picking it up for the 13.5M he's owed. BUT...there's talk he could come back for less and throw out of the 'pen. There are players who are waiting to see who gets Dusty's job before they decide what they're going to do...so it ain't gonna happen next year, either.

Besides...Dusty's gone. McPhail's gone. But fuckin' HENDRY and ROTHSCHILD are the problem. And are they gone?

Nooooooooooo.

So...next year is a 'wait and see' year. Nothing before 2008.

But...2008 is gonna be it. And it'll be Poetic.

160. If the Cubs learn that they can't rely on Prior or Wood...
... they might get somewhere.

Wood pitched what, 30 innings this year? Less? Prior gets a hangnail and is on the DL for two months... I think this year the Cubs finally realized that Zambrano has been the real backbone of their pitching staff for the past five years, and if they can let go of the delusion that Prior and Wood are the next Roger Clemens and acquire some hot pitching prospects, they might start to build a competitive team.

But, that all depends on the management removing their rectal-cranial inversion. And I have to admit, recently the Cardinals have suffered from the "recruit a big name star to fix all our problems" delusion - Mark Mulder, WTF? We traded Dan Haren for a declining superstar who spent the entire 2006 season either sucking or on the DL?

Baseball really is the sport for you if you want to have your heart broken repeatedly. My Cardinals are still in the game... so far... crossing my fingers here and hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. The Tigers are a juggernaut this year, though, so I'm afraid whoever wins the NLCS is going to have to prepare for a bumpy ride.

You must be one of those diehard suckers for the underdogs. I suppose I usually am, too... but, I was born with an obligation to hate the Cubs, so hate I shall.

Hell, I'd root hardcore for the Tigers this year if the Cardinals weren't still in the mix. There's something about underdog sports stories that just get you right *here*... hell, I almost cried watching the Saints at the Superdome a couple of weeks ago.

What? You don't see anything?

I guess that means your life is meaningless. I'd probably kill myself if I were you.

who put an ass-kicking on Division I-AA Southeast Missouri State today. Not much to write home about, but they're playing well this year.

177. Mine is explained by the quote in my sig line
It's something I thought up when I realized that I identified a lot of people on DU by their avatars more than by their names, so I wanted something unique. And it's representative of the patchwork that is me, and everyone.

184. Remember the thread about birthdays?
We shared the same birthday and, at the time, the same avatar.
Funny, I had never looked at the avatar the way you do.

It has always reminded me of my mom. When I was a little girl there was a photograph in my mom's wallet with her "kiss" on the back. A sign of friendship, I think.

Now that I know what it means to all of you, I think I may have cause for serious embarrassment.

Between my screen name (which was not intended for public use in the first place - just meant to be a sign-in) and the sex avatar, what kind of message have I been sending out? - O.M.G.!! I don't know if I should  or
