Are HD DVD's Worth the price? |
|
I am looking to buy Reds...(cuz I am a bleedingheart liberal)...so I have two choices.
I own an HD TV...but have never had HD cable to know the difference...so is it worth twice the cost on an HD DVD?

...and right now they are about $1000. You didn't think that the tech companies would let you off that easy did you?

10. actually, you're off by 100% on the price... |
|
you can find the RCA HD-DVD player for ~$498, exactly the same as the Toshiba (at $200 more)
if you already have an XBOX 360, you can get the HD-DVD drive addon for $199 starting November 17th
(you're thinking $1000+ for Blu-Ray :puke: )

|
this summer. I am not in the market so I really don't know. As far as Blu-Ray, I will just buy a PS3

9. Well I bought a HDTV capable TV last year! |
|
I paid extra for the "built in" HDTV. Nobody told me they only have 10 or so HDTV channels on Direct TV- and it costs 399.00 for a special reciever/dvr, the monthly extra cost is 10 bucks??????? Needless to say I have not actually "confirmed" that my tv will do HD.

11. yup...I too have yet to confirm the HD part |
|
I refuse to pay so much for TV when I watch so little to begin with...I basically get netflix and that is about all I watch.

12. If you do it right, you can get the HD-DVR from D* for $99 |
|
just call in the 'retention line' and tell them you've been gettig peppered with offers from the cable company, they'll make you a deal (you might have to play a round or two of CSR to get the price). The HD-DVR will also get you local HD channels.

14. I have an hdtv and do not have cable or satellite. |
|
I get my HD stations the old fashioned way--I use an antenna on the roof. Some people can pick up HD channels just using rabbit ears if they are close enough. I used to have Voom HD satellite tv and got about 26 stations in HD and that was great. I decided to go with free, over the air tv because the satellite and cable got to be like Bruce Springsteen's song--57 Channels and Nothing's On. Now with only 10 channels, something is always on. If you have an hdtv, get an HD channel because it is great.
As far as HD dvds go, you still have a format battle going on between HD Dvd and Blue Ray (Remember VHS vs. Beta?). Until there is a clear cut winner, or players that will play both formats, you may pick a loser. Better to wait until one format wins and the price comes down. And then decide if it is worth it to get all of your favorite movies in HD.
