Poll question: will my apartment building let me poke around in the network interface device |
|
for the telephones? I just had to order new land-line phone service, and get no dial tone even after it's been switched on at the phone company. I'm about 99.9% sure the problem is not with the wiring inside the apartment, and I strongly suspect it is something on the building side of the NID (and thus technically the building management's responsibility), for instance a wire that needs to be plugged in or something. I called the building management, and they won't even bother to look, since the "don't have any telephone technicians on staff" and need the phone company to come out. On the one hand, OK, if they want to spend $100 or whatever to have someone plug a wire into a goddman jack for them, that's their business...on the other hand, if it's what I think it is I can just fix it myself so I can have the phone working. So, what do you think?

Most places I've suggested this option to, places I've worked I mean, have been aggreable to the option. Then again maybe that's because I work/worked there.
