Deck the halls with stupid gifts...
Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 01:57 AM by devilgrrl
For the second consecutive year I have had the misfortune of receiving utterly useless, lame ass gifts.

1st stupid gift - A t-shirt from Old Navy with "Old Navy" splashed across the front. :eyes: I HATE Old Navy!

2nd stupid gift - I love to read but instead of buying me a book to expand my horizons what do I get? A collection of cat detective stories worthy of the pages of Readers Digest. :wtf:

3 stupid gift - the DVD collection of all the Monty Python's Flying Circus episodes. I like Monty Python but give me a fuckin' break. Oh, don't get 'Two Towers', she liked Monty Python when she was a teenager, surely I must feel the same way.... WRONG! :grr:

Jesus H. Christ! You'd think my family would know what I like and don't like. I couldn't help it and let everyone know it too. Unfuckin' believable!

Yes, I know it's the thought that counts but I'd rather get nothing than THOUGHTLESS gifts.

Sorry for the rant but it pisses me off when people spend money on things that I'm surely going to toss the next day. Why spend it at all?

Idiots!!! :grr: :grr:

11. Well... those whom didn't are more than welcome to have mine.
I know perfectly well that I'm being rather infantile about all this but it's like they don't even know me... or want to for that matter.

I think people suucumb to the commercialization and feel a need/obligation to spend...

btw...the "abercrombie and fitch" t-shirt was from a republican girlfriend who was trying to convert me...

offer still stands love...

13. You missed the point
Those that didn't get a gift don't want yours.

I can be pissy too. :D

Nevermind. I am being pissy.

16. That's exactly why I still haven't opened my gifts yet.
To top that off, 1 of my sisters hasn't even mailed my gift yet! I learned several years ago the only way to get what I want...is to get it myself. Sure the element of surprise is gone, but at least I'm happy :-)

17. Perspective:
I'll share a family story. I have 2 sons. The oldest is an extrovert; the youngest an introvert. From the very beginning, the family on the father's side was disappointed in the second child. He was another boy, not a girl, and he was quiet. Didn't share a lot. We endured years of showering the first boy with gifts and attention, and ignoring the second boy. Totally. Including at Christmas and birthdays. We shrugged and dealt with it; divorce removed us further from their sphere.

Monday I got a call from the ex MIL. She blames me for the fact that she never sees her grandsons; when their dad died, they cut all the ties. I endured the call, and she let me know she was sending their gifts to me since she didn't know how to reach them. So the box arrives. I open it up, and take out a gift bag for the older, favored son. It contains a wallet full of cash. I take out 6 wrapped boxes for my 3-year-old grandson, all marked with the wrong name. She doesn't know the boy's name. (She has met him, and been given his name in writing numerous times.) Not just spelled wrong; a different, but close, name. At the bottom of the box is some tissue paper. With the younger son's name on it. It is wrapped loosely around a jacket. So I take out the jacket, rolled into a bundle, and set it under the tree with its tissue paper on top. Last night, as we opened gifts, I pointed out the bundle. He tossed aside the tissue paper and picked up the jacket. And laughed, and tossed it back to me with instructions to find a charity collecting winter coats for the needy. It might have fit him when he was 12, but he's 24.

Gifts you don't care for, given with love, are still given with love. You can appreciate the love even if you don't use the gift.

According to my youngest son, it's better to get nothing than to get a gift given without care, regardless of the gift itself.
