Van Halen, R.E.M. make Rock n' Roll HOF nominee list
Wonder if they'll reunite (with Dave, not Sammy) if they get in. Nonetheless, 'bout time!

In addition to R.E.M., the nominees are:

Chic
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Patti Smith
Dave Clark Five
The Ronettes
Joe Tex
Iggy and the Stooges

All in all, a pretty good list.

1. Pretty good....
I'd say REM, the Ronettes, Iggy, Joe Tex and Patti Smith for sure...

Van Halen and Dave Clark Five on the edge...

3. How long though before the music snobs
Start railing about how Van Halen sucks. Me love 'em with both Sammy and Dave, hate them with Gary Cherone. Seriously do you know someone who knows someone who knows someone who KNOWS someone who has the Van Halen III album with him?

5. Ha.
I do. I also have the collectible tin.
I also have a motorcycle painted like the Frankenstrat.
Sure, the Cherone stuff was crazy..but I respect them being willing to take a chance. And the tour was fun either way.
Been a member of the VHML since '95-96.
I am a tad irritated at them NOW, though, because rumours are swirling that they are going to tour with Roth (no biggie, but the last time I saw him a few years ago he couldn't hit half the notes anymore) and they want to dump Mikey. Now THAT's BULLSHIT; and I WILL boycott the tour. Mikey has been with them since day one. Can't believe Eddie's gonna let his ego be an ass like that.

14. Some website is actually reporting that Ed named Wolfie as his bass player
Yeah, right? A 15 year old kid playing in the comeback tour of the greatest American rock n roll band of all time?

Dave's gotta insist that Mikey be involved. And Mikey needs to pull his nose out of the Tequila Salesman's Republican ass.

Looking forward to VH in the Hall of Fame, hoping to see the real band next summer. And Dave's singing voice is just fine (minus the screams, but who expects a 50 year old to pull that off)

6. I was going to until The Stooges, Furious Five and Patti Smith pacified my snobbishness.

10. Every Van Halen album I own - which is all of them through 1984 -
is just a few feet away from me even as we speak.

4. Hell yes
R.E.M.! Congrats to all of the guys! They more than deserve this! First the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame and now the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame! R.E.M. is far from being done, they're just beginning... :D

8. The "Let's Predictibly Snub Prog" Hall of Fame.
Because according to most scenester critics, you have not an OUNCE of musical taste if you like any group who regularly plays songs longer than "Stairway to Heaven".

Seriously, why the shit does CHIC belong in the batter's box before Rush, ELP, Genesis, Jethro Tull and Yes? Please explain that one to me. I mean, I like "Good Times" as much as the next bad-dancing, leisure-suited, porn-mustached caucasian, and that song's melody arguably mainstreamed one of the most popular genres of music in history . . . but HOF material, they isn't.

9. And they were inducted into the Georgia Music HOF in September!
And Bill Berry played with the guys & each chose a song for their set! Georgia Public Broadcasting ordered YouTube to take their videos down. x(

13. There are rumors of VH and Dave reuniting (but nothing to do with
the Hall of Fame). But it's not the first time we've heard those rumors, so I'll believe it when I see (and hear) it.

15. Right now, I'd guess the Hall of Fame is a done deal
The tour.... I'd give it about 50/50 odds at the moment. I know that Dave wants it. I know the fans want it. Eddie says he wants it. But Dave's still on tour at the moment, so I doubt the "serious talks" have even started yet. But with the Hall of Fame thing coming up, at least they have a place to start talking. They'll be expected to play live there.

16. Grandmaster Flash is the King of the Nerds
If you ever get the chance to hear his NPR interview...fantastic, interesting, illuminating. The man's arguably a genius, and the father of rap music, but still so dang ... nerdy.

Between him and Iggy, thsi might actually be intersting.

18. It better be the one and only Mighty Van HALEN
No Republican Tequila Salesmen need apply.

Hall of fame rules say you aren't eligible until 25 years after your first record. Van Hagar's first record came out in 1986. The Ched Rocker ain't eligible.

19. Grandmaster Flash - About damn time
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were Hall of Fame material the day they opened their mouths.

Iggy and the Stooges - Total Hall of Fame material.

Joe Tex - Total downhome funky dirty-ass brilliant sheet.

The rest, eh...I'm sure they got fans, but I was never tickled that much.

R.E.M. was the most uninspired, bland band I've ever seen live. A pure form of terrible.

Van Halen - Great for their time, but becoming more and more ridiculous as time goes on. Let brilliance die.

No real opinions on the rest.
