The Lost Boys movie - vampire killed by deer antler? *spoilers*
My friends and I were discussing the ending of the Lost Boys the other day. At the end, the head vampire played by Keifer Sutherland is killed by being impaled on a deer antler. I was arguing technically a vampire could not be killed by a deer antler. My friends were saying it is possible, but shifted their rationale a few times.

According to lore, a vampire can be killed by a wooden stake through the heart. They do this in the movie to other vampires. A deer antler is not made of wood, however. From what I understand, a deer antler is made of bone material, which is primarily calcium and magnesium. Wood is made from celluose and lignan...cellulose being made from glucose. An antler and wood are two totally different things.

Agree? Disagree?

3. As a true vampire hunter will tell you
any pointy object that is a part of the household said offending vampire is causing trouble in, will do.

4. ditto
most vampires, any sharp object that penetrates the vamp's heart, will do the job...but some authors tweak their vamps, and some vamps don't suffer the heart/stab issue...

5. The Lounge is wall to wall nerds
There's even separate tables for specialty nerds, ie Trekkers.

Vampires can be destroyed by fire, complete severing of the spine or decapitation and, of course, the old standby, a wooden stake through the heart. Any other object would cause a massive trauma; the vamp would be out of action until s/he regenerated. So I thinking the writers and producers left open the possibility of a Lost Boys II.

Just like Muslims have Ramadan, we have Ekadasi (and Caturmasya for those who follow it - I don't).

Please keep hanging in there. I am glad to see you here.

7. Lore says a vampire can be immobilized...
...by being staked to the ground. They are killed with decapatation and cremation.

Dracula, in the Stoker novel, was killed with a knife in his chest.

8. It depends on which lands Vampire Lore you believe
I wouldn't want to empirically test it out on any Vampires, though...

20. I don't believe any of them.
I merely point out that Hollywood and 20th century writing seems to have created its own 'lore' independent of any organic legends.

10. What is the best way to kill a vampire?
Dear Cecil:

I have a question to which I need an immediate reply, which I hope you publish, as others on the community may feel the need to know this information. Please list in order the most preferred ways to kill a vampire. --J. Pasquale, Baltimore

Dear J.:

I'll admit I've heard some horror stories about crime in Baltimore, J., but vampires--land o' Goshen, honey, things are really getting out of hand. Grab your pencil.

To kill a vampire it is first necessary to determine its ethnic origin. I regret that I cannot offer much useful information on how this might be accomplished, but I'm sure you'll think of something.

Next, locate the vampire's daytime whereabouts, i.e., its grave. My vampire manual recommends placing "a young lad who is innocent of girls," such as Richard Simmons, atop a black virgin stallion, and leading the two through a likely graveyard. If the horse refuses to pass a certain grave, you've hit paydirt, so to speak. The telltale signs of a vampirous corpse are fluidity of the blood, lack of putrefaction, and flexibility of the limbs (we're talking about corpses now, mind you).

Finally, administer treatment as prescribed below:

SPECIES - COUNTRY - APPROVED METHOD OF DISPOSAL
Sampiro - Albania - Stake through heart
Nachtzehrer - Bavaria - Place coin in mouth, decapitate with ax
Ogoljen - Bohemia - Bury at crossroads
Krvoijac - Bulgaria - Chain to grave with wild roses
Kathakano - Crete - Boil head in vinegar
Brukalaco - Greece - Cut off and burn head
Vampir - Hungary - Stake through heart, nail through temples
Dearg-dul - Ireland - Pile stones on grave
Vryolakas - Macedonia - Pour boiling oil on, drive nail through navel
Upier - Poland - Bury face downwards
Gierach - Prussia - Put poppy seeds in grave
Strigoiul - Rumania - Remove heart, cut in two; garlic in mouth, nail in head
Vlkoslak - Serbia - Cut off toes, drive nail through neck
Neuntoter - Saxony - Lemon in mouth
Vampiro - Spain - No known remedy

I realize the above will not be much use in the case of a Third World vampire, but you can't have everything. Incidentally, we'll have none of this "preferred ways" business. There's a right way and a wrong way to do everything. Take some pride in your work.

11. I'll have to watch "Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter" again
The vampires in it not only attacked in the daylight but they couldn't be killed with a wooden stake either.
Maybe cause they were "Brit" vampires as it was one of the great "Hammer Films" known and famous for showing lots of cleavage.
