DU Christians Check In
I was listening to a Christian talk show about blessing waitresses and waiters by leaving huge tips on Sundays, Thanksgiving, etc. . . .

As in hundreds of dollars just for the sake of blessing someone.

You know, something about "helping people."

What do you think? :)

1. I'm a big tipper whenever I can be. My brother and I both take pride
in it. Helping people who do the actual work is something everyone ought to do. It's not just a Christian duty, it's an American moral responsibility.

2. On the show to which I was listening . . .
The host told the story of a friend who goes to a Waffle House on Thanksgiving (apparently they are all open on that day, and some soul is working there). The friend buys a cup of coffee, drinks it, puts down a one hundred dollar bill, and leaves. ;)

3. I think that's a lovely thing to do, but...
we're just not of an income level to do things like that. We are decent tippers, though, because I know being a waiter or waitress can be hard work.

It would be really fun to be able to tip like that on a lonely holiday morning, or late at night, when the tips are lousy.

usually it's totally random, and after i've been drinking

the funny thing is, when i leave a huge tip, it always seems to come back to me within a week

6. if we have some extra cash...
we leave it for the waiter/waitress. If I'm asked to donate a dollar at a check out for whatever charity, I do that too. Not much, but when lots of people donate a dollar it adds up. if someone can go in and drop a hundred bucks just to be kind, that's my kind of person.

7. That's awesome, mad-mommy.
We can only do what we can. You're great. ;)

Another story told on the show was about a group of 15 people who went out for brunch after church and racked up a $250 bill at a restaurant. The party left $480 on the table. As they were leaving, the waitress ran out into the parking lot, shouting that they had made a mistake!

One of them replied, "No. We decided to bless you." She fell to her knees and said, "I came to work today knowing that Sunday is always the worst day for tips and I was wondering how I am going to feed my children. This will buy two weeks worth of groceries for us."

:)

8. When we were young
When we were young, my parents had to sometimes rely on the kindness of others. And they also gave when they could. We had good neighbors, and of course our relatives. The only way to pay back that sort of stuff, is by giving when you can. Back then, you really had good friends in neighbors. My childhood neighborhood is getting very nasty, and it's sad.
