As everything falls apart again...(rant)
I've had this trip to see my kids scheduled for-freakin'-ever. Bought the tickets, saved $350 for expenses, and everything else. They've talked of nothing but seeing me for months now. And the flight is tomorrow at 10:00 am.

Tonight, the roomies and I went out to see Lord of the Rings. We were hungry, so, pressed for time, we stopped at a mall with a food court. I looped my purse around the back of the chair and wolfed down some pasta. We had just left when I realized that in my haste, I'd thought to carry a bowl of pasta *but forgotten to get my purse off the chair*.

By the time I got back to look, it was gone. To my great dismay it had not been found by anyone honest enough to take the money out and turn it over to the mall's lost-and-found.

That purse had everything in it--my ID, my checkbook, ATM card, social security card, and travel money. Also keys to our condo and my address book/phone number list.

I'm screwed. I'm just plain screwed.

Tucker

1. Oh no!
I'm so sorry. Did you get the purse back without the ID stuff in it? I wasn't sure by what you said.

You had all your vacation cash in it? Or can you still cancel your ATM account and make sure it isn't used. I would call them RIGHT NOW if you haven't.

2. No, I didn't get it back

Everything's gone. The money was all cash (I don't trust bank balances to be accurate).

And my bank doesn't open till 9 for me to report the lost card...

3. No, you can call 24 hours a day to report the card and checkbook stolen
Look in the phone book now. They can use that card all night and you are not protected until you report it.

Pick up the phone and call girl. ;-)

4. Ouch! I am so sorry to hear that.
I wish there was some kind of advice I could offer other than just to cancel all the ATM cards and everything.

5. Any updates?
I noticed on your SlashDot journal page that you mentioned it might be possible for you to fly even without I.D.

I am hoping that the lack of any updates from you since last night means that you were, indeed, able to get on the plane.

6. Well, I'll provide the update myself!
According to Tucker's Slashdot page, she was indeed able to fly without I.D., and is in the midwest with her kids even as I write this.

7. Ayup!
I was able to fly using a police report that documented the stolen ID. I never even knew that was possible, but Jag called around and arranged things for me.

I'm now at my parents' house, discovering just *how* early my kids like to wake up...

8. Holy moley
Why do people still sling their purse over the back of their seat?

10. Call it a moment of stupidity
...or a momentary lapse in my cynical opinion of people. Or maybe it was just from being too rushed, with way too much going on. Whatever it was, I did it.
