A Time to Remember those we loved and lost this year
Happy All Saints' day! In my faith tradition, this is the time when we remember and give thanks for those we lost in the last year.

First, my Mom:

And my beloved Binky:

Rest in Peace, 2006

2. But yesterday was Samhain!
How dare you reference Christianity and not talk about the pagan holiday (not that there's any difference, really, between X-ianity and, say, Mithros-worship).

:P :P :P :P

5. Excellent idea.

My grandmother (in 1978 with a newborn me and my older sister--ignore the finger up the nose... ;))
July 22, 1917-March 13, 2006. Love you, Grandma.

Also in rememberance of a friend's grandmother who died earlier this year, a friend's mother who died a month ago, and another friend's mother who died last week.

(and  to you)

6. What a nice idea, Rev
This is in honor of -

Jim who had so much to live for

Melanie, my sister who I miss so much

Aunt Alice, whose wisdom and love I'll always cherish

and Tina, too young. May you find the peace in death you never found in life.

My thoughts and hugs to all who've lost loved ones, human and animal.

10. I hope this doesn't trivialize each of your losses.
The last woman I dated died Sunday.

Our best time together was a full production of Oklahoma.

We were both well into our fifties.

She played Ado Annie in high school.

It was a wonderful evening.

I miss you, Thia.

It ain't so much a question of not knowing what to do.
I knowed whut's right and wrong since I been ten.
I heared a lot of stories and I reckon they are true
About how girls're put upon by men.
I know I mustn't fall into the pit,
But when I'm with a feller, I fergit!
I'm jist a girl who cain't say no,
I'm in a turrible fix I always say "come on, le's go"
Jist when I orta say nix!
When a person tries to kiss a girl,
I know she orta give his face a smack.
But as soon as someone kisses me,
I somehow, sorta, wanta kiss him back!
I'm jist a fool when lights are low
I cain't be prissy and quaint
I ain't the type that can faint
How c'n I be whut I ain't?
I cain't say no!
Whut you goin' to do when a feller gits flirty, and starts to talk purty?
Whut you goin' to do?
S'posin' 'at he says 'at yer lips're like cherries, er roses, er berries?
Whut you goin' to do?
S'posin' 'at he says 'at you're sweeter 'n cream,
And he's gotta have cream er die?
Whut you goin' to do when he talks that way,
Spit in his eye?
I'm jist a girl who cain't say no,
Cain't seem to say it at all
I hate to disserpoint a beau
When he is payin' a call!
Fer a while I ack refined and cool,
A settin on the velveteen setee
Nen I think of thet ol' golden rule,
And do fer him what he would do fer me!
I cain't resist a Romeo
In a sombrero and chaps
Soon as I sit on their laps
Somethin' inside of me snaps
I cain't say no!

Jon, who with his then-partner founded a semi-professional dance troupe devoted to the folk dance traditions of the world, a group that I was privileged to sing with for two years

Germaine, my mother's friend since 1924.

This evening my church held an All Saints' Day service, with Herbert Howells' setting (Collegium Regale) of the service, and anthems by Parry and Victoria. Sublime.

13. My mom's funeral was on All Saints Day, which is also
Day of the Dead in the Mexican tradition. (Dio de los Muertos)

They really do it up too. Favorite foods of the loved ones, photos, little altars with keepsakes. A very loving and neat tradition. There is a whole subclass of amazing folk are related to Day of the Dead.

So today I honored my mom by reading a book she would have loved
By doing something extra for someone who needed it
By enjoying my cats (she did really love cats)
and by thinking of neat stuff about her.

 Rev.
second, though just over 6 years Beau...then 4 months later Poppy. Four legged, Artic, Noname, Rikki...all back in 2000. That year sucked in more ways than one.

In the last yearish can't forget, The Great much missed Gizmo, and the very much missed lay on my neck to sleep all night Jazzy. Can't forget Stormy my little screamer either.

Oh and The Bill of Rights, Habeas Corpus and the USA as we used to know her.

18. There are unfortunately a few
I would like to acknowledge my beloved grandmother, who passed away on November 26 2005 at the age of 99. Grandma, I will never forget your devout faith, compassion and the deep, profound and unconditional love and generosity of spirit that you showed toward all those who had the privilege of crossing paths with you. You were truly an inspiration and I will have many cherished memories of the times we spent together. Words are inadequate to express how much I loved you and how much I miss you.

We also lost the last surviving bridesmaid from my grandmother's wedding back in the early 1930s. She was a wonderful, gentle, kind, sweet and loving woman who just exuded warmth and unconditional love just through her presence

There's a close family friend who died just over a year ago. You died too soon Uncle Donald. You were such a warm, kind, friendly, generous and upbeat person who made everybody's lives better by being in them. I remember thinking that I wanted you to be at my wedding when I found my true love. May you rest in peace. We miss you and your warm smile and sense of humor so much

I would also like to acknowledge our beloved family dog Smokey, who was put down today after sixteen years of life –which he lived with so much zeal, enthusiasm and energy until his final hours. A dog that exuded so much cheerfulness and vibrancy and had an enormous heart with a wonderful capacity to forgive and love. Rest in peace Smokey

My deepest and most profound thoughts, prayers, sympathies and condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones this year. :loveya" And to you RevCheesehead   :loveya:
