It's "beggars are choosers" day on Freecycle! |
|
Various people wanted:
A Chihuahua or a Pug ( not a puppy)
An Eliptical Trainer excersize machine (NO STATIONERY BIKES!)
A toaster oven -- must be in great condition!
Bob Seger tickets -- I was unable to get them because they sold out so fast
A chinchilla for my wife's birthday
:eyes:
Meanwhile, people were offering the usual mix of baby items, non-working appliances and old magazines. And, inexplicably, bunnies.
Maybe I should ask if anyone has any 1L law books they're not using. Maybe I can save a few bucks next semester...

3. I have never understood the popularity of Freecycle. |
|
Clearly it must depend on the area. Mine sounds a lot like yours.

5. Freecycle's been good for getting rid of things, not so good getting things. |
|
I've been able to get rid of clothes, a microwave cart, SCSI scanner and printer, and a big box of assorted computer cables, power cords and other crap.
I picked up some shoes that were advertised as 3 pairs, size 7.5 -- exactly my size -- and I ended up with 5 pairs, none of which were size 7.5 (or even close) -- one was a 6, two were 9. The four-year-old uses them for dress-up now.

7. That's exactly how I've used it. |
|
We've gotten rid of stuff but I'd never scan it for things to get.

8. Freecycle St Louis helped me get rid of a lot of |

stuff when I moved in August 2005. It was fantastic. What I could no longer use went to folks who could use it. I had a lot of clothes to give away. I take very good care of my clothes and buy good stuff. Those who picked up stuff from me would e mail me back saying how pleased they were and thankful. The stories I heard last summer were sad...they needed stuff for a new job but couldn't afford to buy it on account of finances.
I love freecycle!!!
One of my friends told me there is a freecycle like section on craigslist.

9. That is the one thing I appreciate about it. |
|
When we gave away our dining room furniture and a twin bed, the two families really seemed to need it. I can't imagine shopping for stuff and putting out requests. That's just me I guess.

4. They allow animal listings on your freecycle? |
|
Ours is pretty strict in not allowing them.
It might not be a bad idea to email the list admin about that- free animals get used by bait for fighters, small mammals get used as snake food, they bunched and sold to labs or just taken in by people who might not have been deemed qualified had proper screening occurred.

6. Yeah, the guidelines specifically allow pets. |
|
They just say "be careful." I agree, it's stupid.

10. Unfortunately it's always that way on ours. |

:(
Wanted today alone, a girl's white (has to be WHITE) 3 piece bedroom set in excellent to new condition, a laptop computer (this because she can't lift a regular desktop), a minimum 32 inch cable ready T.V.
Giving away? 3 people are getting rid of stuffed animals and one person is getting rid of 2 cans of baked beans.
We have a 10 to 1 want to give ratio. I keep meaning to unsubscribe because it isn't what I thought it was but sometimes it's entertaining.
The other thing that bothers me is the nasty way some of the people giving stuff away post. i.e. "Don't come on my porch, take them and go, if you're not coming to pick it up DON'T BOTHER..." That sort of thing.
