Why do people put pine straw around plants, trees, etc.? |

Seriously, I want to know what that's all about. What's it supposed to do? What's it for? What purpose does it serve?

soil retain moisture longer and helps kill off weeds. For some plants, such as clematis, the roots need to be kept from getting too overheated, as well.
