Unfaithful
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 08:06 PM by bigwillq
So I couldn't sleep last night and it was 1:30 a.m. and the 2002 movie "Unfaithful" starring the beautiful Diane Lane, Richard Gere and the oh-so-yummy Oliver Martinez came on TBS.

I had only seen this movie once, right after it came out on video and I had forgotten what a devastating, emotional, intense movie it was.

Diane Lane knocked the ball out of the park by her performance. Her scenes with Martinez sizzled.
The scene with Lane, who had just had the affair for the first time, on the train home was one of the best scenes, imo, in movie history.
She doesn't say one word but conveys so much emotion by her facial and non-verbal communication.

I didn't really like the lead up to the ending and the movie is really soapy and TV-movie-of the weekish but it is one of my favorite movies.

It reminded me of this time I fooled around with this dude. (yes I was guilty of cheating although we never had sex--well just the Bill Clinton variety!)

Just the passion and spontaneity of the love scenes in that movie reminded me of that dude and it made me cry.

I don't think it's right to cheat (although I have been on each end of that deal) but I think the movie captures what love and lust can do to families and relationships.

Just thought I would share.

:)

1. This would've made a great theme song:
Rihanna - Unfaithful

Story of my life
Searching for the right
But it keeps avoiding me
Sorrow in my soul
cause it seems that wrong
really loves my company

Hes more than a man
and this is more than love
the reason that this guy is blue
the clouds are rolling in
because I'm gone again
and to him I just can't be true

and I know that he knows I'm unfaithful
and it kills him inside
to know that I am happy with some other guy
I can see him dying

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
Everytime I walk out the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be...
a murderer

I feel it in the air
as I'm doing my hair
preparing for another day
A kiss up on my cheek
He's here reluctantly
as if I'm gonna be out late
I say I won't be long
Just hanging with the girls
A liar didn't have to tell
Because we both know
where I'm about to go
and we know it very well

cause I know that he knows I'm unfaithful
and it kills him inside
to know that I am happy with some other guy
I can see him dying

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
Everytime I walk out the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be...
a murderer

His trust
I might as well take a gun and put it to his head
Get it over with
I don't wanna do this
Anymore (anymore)

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
Everytime I walk out the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be...
a murderer (a murderer)

No no no no

Yeah yeah yeah

Rowr! Diane Lane was sexy as all hell in that movie. Of course, she's sexy as all hell most of the time. :D

Edit - she's got me so flummoxed I can't spell. :P

10. I loved that movie
Oliver Martinez is HOT!!!!

One of my favorite scenes, the cafe interlude with her friends waiting at the table. While they were talking about how well preserved her ass was, said ass was up against the bathroom wall.

15. She deserved the Oscar that year -- especially for the scene you mentioned
I thought the movie was very honest -- for a change! Diane Lane's character was NOT made out to be "bad" -- none of the characters were... they were just people who all got caught up in certain emotions: lust, anger, guilt.lt, etc.

16. Who won that year?
Was it Nicole Kidman for "The Hours"?

I know Selma Hayek was also nominated that year for "Frida", which was another powerful movie and performance.

17. I think KIdman for THe Hours
She was very good in that, but I think either Lane or Hayek should have won.. with an edge to Diane Lane (of course, I may be prejudiced -- I've thought she was hot the last 20 years, and she just gets hotter with age.)

19. Nevermind, I'm a year behind
I was thinking 2002 Oscars, which Halle did win, but 2002 is when Unfaithful came out, not nominated.

2003 Oscars
THE NOMINEES:
BEST ACTRESS

Salma Hayek, Frida

Nicole Kidman, The Hours Winner

Diane Lane, Unfaithful

Julianne Moore, Far From Heaven

Renee Zellweger, Chicago
