Two of my co-workers just proudly told me they are going to see DICK CHENEY!
Let me set the scene:

I walk into the room to find the two of them fiddling with a video camera. Trying to be social, I ask, "What are you guys up to? That seems like a really nice camera"

To which they respond joyously, "Oh, we got tickets to go see Dick Cheney at the Spokane Airport! We're just getting the camera ready to record it." They then look at me with huge smiles on their face, as if expecting me to begin bemoaning MY lack of a ticket to such an event.

Enter awkward silence.

Coworker sensing the awkward silence...."You know, the Vice President of the United States?" Me: "Oh, I'm familiar."

Silence.

Me: "Ok, well then. You two......have fun."

Exit room.

When I left that day, I saw copious Bush/Cheney stickers all over the car they were driving.

I feel dirty.

1. Spokane?
Not shocked.

I'd pay for a ticket to AVOID Dick Cheney. :scared:

6. No kidding.
I've never felt so out of place as I did in Northern Idaho across the border from the Spokane area.

I felt every eye on me. Beautiful up there though. Loved the lake; very clear water. And I think it's Coeur d'Alene.

13. When were you there?
In the 80's it was a hippie town
In the 90's it turned neo-nazi
Today it's gone back to hippie

16. During the Neo-Nazi times.
I'm glad it's improved. Maybe I'll have to make a return trip.

17. One of the things Clinton's FBI did
Clinton made cleaning up the domestic terrorists in the Northwest a priority around the end of his administration.

The Republicans never talk about this for some reason...

10. And they're constantly whining about Seattle and Olympia.
As if Eastern Washington doesn't recieve a disproportionate amount of state funds.

The drive from Seattle to Spokane is the most excruciating driving experience. Spokane makes Ellensburg look cosmopolitan.

4. Spokane is such an armpit.
Sexually harassing Jim West, police officers chasing each other at high speed for fun, extreme poverty everywhere, a sincere lack of cultural diversity, odd-smelling downtown, proximity to Idaho....

I have to occasionally be in Spokane for business. It's the Bizzaro-world Seattle, where everything is thirty years behind the times and there are no Starbucks downtown.

14. Hey now!
I live in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and I find it a wonderful place to live. Sure, Idaho is highly republican....but it can still be a great place (repugs aside).

18. Idaho is gorgeous!
However, it's personally a little weird for me. I've honestly never seen such a sincere lack of cultural diversity in my life. I drove to Post Falls and actually saw a whole group of men with Hitler moustaches. Even though I don't know about them personally, I find it really creepy.

Idaho is a beautiful state, from what I've seen. However, what I've seen has been kind of scary. Sort of like Northeastern Washington. Just my experience, though. I'd be happy, if there were really a bunch of liberals that I just didn't see.

Spokane is still an armpit, though. Walk through "downtown" and you'll be thrust thirty years in the past.

20. Oh I agree about Spokane.
Otherwise known as SpoCompton.

It's ugly as hell, and as a side note....it is the MOST frustrating city to try and drive in.

But I enjoy living in Coeur d Alene.

8. "So is the GOP still providing you people with underage minor gay boychilds
to sodomize in the name of Jesus, or after the Foley scandal, do you have to pay for them yourselves now? Are they still tax deductible for members of the family values party? Or is that only if you take a sex tour with Rush Limbaugh to Asia to have sex with minors, which is apparently okay in the Bible since they have slanted eyes and thus aren't human, based on the musings of Reagan - your idolatrous messiah Christ?"

12. "They sure are!"
Spokane is a hotbed of scandals - from the Spokane Catholic diocese to now-deceased mayor Jim West.

15. This reminds me of my coworker (wingnut) who recommended the movie
"Flyboys" to me, specifically mentioning that "the critics hate it, but conservative commentators like Michael Medved are giving it RAVE reviews!"

I said, "Um, okay, but you see, that would actually make me LESS likely to see it."

25. Spokane really sucks
I went to High School in Pend Oreille Co. to the north and went into Spokaloo many times. The town is exceedingly drab and depressing, full of wingnuts and meth labs. The town has ZERO culture and ignorance reigns supreme. I couldn't get away from there fast enough.
