What movie do you hate the most? |
|
I was watching TV and noticed that next weekend that The Wizard of Oz is showing on three consecutive nights.
I hate that movie. Absolutely detest it and have never let my kids watch it.
#1 Despite the fact that I am 49, the flying monkeys still scare the crap out of me.
#2 I can't stand Judy Garland. I see Judy Garland, no matter how young, and my mind sees the haggard druggie she became. (shudder)

And it was all people were talking about. I only watched about the first twenty minutes of it so maybe I missed the good part....right? :sarcasm:
Haven't seen "Sideways" yet.

It took me more than twenty minutes to get into Napoleon Dynamite enough to enjoy it. It was an odd flick, though, I can see how many people wouldn't get it.

20. I just heard a review on the radio for it |
|
The critic (don't know the name) was explaining that nobody will think it's funny unless they understand this or that, etc. Which means that since he liked the film and if you don't, that means you don't get it because he knows what he's talking about. Like some people still say about "Saturday Night Live" these days. "We say it's funny therefore it's funny", "If you don't think it's funny too then you just don't get it".
Whatever....

7. Any movie that I see the trailer for repeatedly I pretty much hate. |
|
I hate to have "seen" the movie when I get there. I also hate movies that get great reviews, they are almost always way over-hyped. I hate The Wizard of Oz too, just on general principle.

10. "While You Were Sleeping" |
|
This is what happens when people who should stick with TV movies---Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, guy with the creepy monster eyebrows---all get involved in a romantic comedy, a genre which is in fact neither. A former girlfriend made me watch this, and I often said the title reflected how I wish I could have seen the movie. A close runner-up is "My Life," the Michael Keaton-Nicole Kidman turd of sentimentality.

I laughed exactly once during 'Mary': during the discussion of the 60-second abs workout.
Sideways: The characters were merely appalling, not the least funny.

14. Jackass-type and Subhuman torture films |
|
1. Jackass - I'll never watch this film. I don't have to watch it to know that bodily functions and hurting yourself are not entertainment.
2. Saw/Hostel - I've seen parts of these movies. Again, they aren't entertaining to me. I hate that people are tortured (even artistically) and the torture is supposed to be the entertainment.

It's so sappy and irritating to me. It's not that I don't like sappy movies, I love "The Sound Of Music" and other similar family-friendly flicks. I don't hate Jimmy Stewart-I love him in Hitchcock movies. I just hate that movie.

18. There is a way to redeem Wizard of Oz |
|
Watch it with the sound turned off and play Dark Side of the Moon with it. The sychronicity is eerie and amazing.
Put your DSOTM CD in and pause it as soon as the timer digits first show 0. Start Wizard of Oz, then take your CD off pause at the third roar of the MGM lion.
Enjoy!

I actually got into the characters, but the ending was so pointless and manipulative I was pissed. I kind of got what they were trying to do, but they didn't do it, they just killed the guy and left everything hanging without making a decent point, other than "Hey, look, we made a sad movie and you didn't expect it, did you?"

25. Tie between "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" and "True Lies." |
|
Both were formulaic, without an ounce of originality, whether artistic, literary, or metaphysical. Neither rang true on any level. What the Hell was with making Jamie Lee Curtis scream every few seconds? That movie was racist, sexist, stupid, and offensive in every way. I'm surprised Schwarzeneger didn't burn a Jew or lynch a black man, just for giggles.
Ferris Buehler looked like a Saturday morning cereal commercial. "Hey, forget we're grown-ups, look how cool and hep and happenin' we are! Look, kick the principal in the nuts! Look, stand up to your dad after wrecking his car! Look, Mia's skin! Look, a cliche recital about isms in the shower!" Feakin' piece of junk. It was so lame and predictable I was guessing the next lines in the theater, and people around me were laughing about it. "I don't believe in isms, I believe in myself." blablabla!!!
I want my money back for that one!!
Tom Arnold was funny, though. Only no-sickening part of the movie.

It is gratifying that his last film deservedly flopped. It seems that mass opinion has caught up with his overbearing manipulations and cheesy plot devices. As for his vaunted "atmosphere" - tying a bow tie on a pile of shit doesn't make the shit stop stinking.
