2. You just reminded me of a Vladimir Vysotsky story.

Legend has it that Vysotsky, a chronic alcoholic, was implanted with a chip on his butt and told that the chip had a poison that would kill him if he ever drank alcohol again. Vysotsky cut it out with a pen knife and continued happily drinking.
