Saturday night, lookin' for love (pix)
Now, if spiders make you squeamish, close this thread. But if you want to see what came strutting across my side yard this afternoon, scroll down. She (I assume it's a she as males are usually darker than females) was dressed to kill and and enjoying a nice fall day looking for a friend with which to fulfill millions of years of evolutionary urges to get funky with another and make the Theraphosa with two cephalothoraxes.

2. It's a tarantula of some type.
Sources say they are harmless, although the bite can be painful it's not poisonous. First live one I have seen around here. They usually come out at night, but it's matin' season!

3. if a tarantula is out in the day it can mean only one thing.
rabies.

was it foaming around its pincers?

did it have a wild look in its 300 eyes?

8. Your welcome!
It was a family event. Then we just left her alone. She hid under some cardboard for a while. Later I noted that she had moved on. I hope she finds another place to stroll tomorrow as I plan to work on the truck out there. I'd hate to be on my back reaching for a wrench and come face to fang with her!

9. For some reason tarantulas are way less creepy than other spiders.

15. And to eat when they're done with them.
Okay, that's supposed to be black widows, isn't it?

Still, nice setup, if you can get away with it!

14. Awww, she's a beauty! She would be a bit startling though, if you went
to run across under a truck. "Now where's that rag...? AHHHHHH!!!"
