1. Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Shrubbie |
|
Just to give Jefferson and Lincoln a chance to kick the shit out of Shrubbie. Then, when that was done, we'd toss him out into the cold and invite in Churchill for some conversation.

|
clever, funny or "plain spoken."
Barrack Obama because I'd need someone mature to talk me out of what I'd really want to say.
And Gregory Peck because he is my all-time favorite actor and quite a lefty! He's Atticus Finch!

MLK, Jr.: Because he was such a visionary leader. Gandhi: Same as MLK, Jr. my grandmother: I just miss her, plus she could help me make my cooking better. She was the best cook I ever met.

|
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 12:18 AM by tinfoil tiaras
Mike Mills, because he's my favorite member of R.E.M. and he's always so nice (and cuddly looking...haha, i really hope he doesn't read DU :P ;) )
Jesus, so I can totally ask him what he thinks of the fundie hypocrites these days
Hitler, so I can ask him what in the hell got him so messed up
im gonna copy yall with honorable mentions: Borat, Gregory Peck, Peter Buck (guitarist of R.E.M.; also in The Minus 5 and alot more bands), Al Franken, all 3 of The Dixie Chicks (its wierd, i was really into them, then i totally got not into them and now theyre like my #2 band (behind R.E.M. of course) )...

15. Abraham Lincoln, Enrico Fermi, and Neils Bohr. |
|
Lincoln would provide the jokes, and I'm sure he'd be fascinated with Fermi, who was wonderful at simple demonstrations.
I'd love just to watch Bohr ponder and wait for exactly the precise words. Of course there's a risk that Bohr and Fermi would drift into shop talk that would be beyond Abe and I. I guess that Abe and I would just have to chat then, which would be fine with me.
I wonder though, how Bohr and Fermi might react to Lincoln. They were not Americans after all, but surely they knew of Lincoln and it would be really, really interesting to watch their European sensibilities react to the subtle wit and convoluted metaphors in which Lincoln spoke.

18. Bill Clinton, Emily Dickinson, and Annie Leibovitz |
|
Why Bill? Just to hear him talk.
Why Emily? Because I know she'd turn whatever Bill said into poetry.
Why Annie? I want photos of the event.
It would be potluck -- because I'd be interested to see what each would bring. Probably Indian bread for Emily.

that I'd have invite them in groups of three over the course of a year. First round: Gore Vidal, Molly Ivins and former DU Mod Terrya (and the guest of his choice). :D

Bill Clinton, Keith Olbermann, and Edward R. Murrow. I would enjoy the conversation, and after dinner I would show Mr. Murrow some of Keith's special comments and have HIM tell Keith that he (Keith)is this generation's Murrow.
