1. The Oompa Loompas in the original are the only thing I like about
that movie. :P

I never liked the original, yes, yes I know I suck. But it always had this weird kind of sleazy feel for me. I don't know why, but the whole movie always creeped me out, except for the Oompa Loompas.

2. The original had the wicked 1970s German vibe going on that kicked ass

5. I hate that movie... I had read the book and was enthralled with it.
Then I saw the stupid movie and it was nothing like I imagined. 30 years later I saw what I had imagined and was finally happy. :hi:

9. Yup -- the Depp/Burton was way more faithful to the book, etc.
Dahl's daughter/literary executor has complete approval. Dahl was so horrified by the first adaption, that he didn't allow the sequel (Great Glass Elevator) to be made. His daughter (OPhelia?) said her father would have been pleased with the Depp/Burton version.

10. I agree...
I am totally fascinated by the new version just like I was when I first read the book as a kid.

12. You cannot imagine the wrath of my 7 year old anger when I saw
that mislabeled, mishandled movie.

The thing that blew me away was that Charlie's crooked house in the second movie was just as I had imagined.

22. Yup -- the Great Glass Elevator was going to be made
But, the first film appalled him soooo much, he never signed the contracts.

The first movie is "Willy Wonka," not "Charlie." Notice that... and then let's talk about how I read Wilder insisted on that, and Depp didn't...

11. I don't care how faithful Burton's vision was. .
It still wasn't that great of a movie.

The kids weren't great. the Loompa's songs were VERY annoying... and even Depp (Who I always find to be great) was kind of dissappointing.

With that being said . . . The original oompa loompas were indeed quite creepy. Of course I find the whole "is it raining, is it pouring) scene creepier than anything else in that movie, especially since that's how one of my bros use to love to wake me up for school (reciting that whole thing in a whispered tone while standing over me to get me up)

14. The songs in the new one had the original lyrics from the book
I have to confess that I actually liked the music in Burton's movie...

19. I don't have a problem with the lyrics per see. . .
I just thought the song as whole was annoying.

To be fair .. the Ommpa songs in the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory telling weren't all that fantastic either (Although it's given us countless fucking parodys)

And to be fair if I had to pin point something I liked in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . . . . the Squirrels kick ass.

The geese just didn't cut it, although I did like the original Veruca better.
